  Message Not Read  The 2010 Green & White Challenge -- completed 1/02
   Posted: 8/8/2010 9:17:55 AM
It is almost time for 2010 football season get underway and that means it is once again time
to announce this year's categories for the 4th Green & White Challenge.

How it works: We are announcing categories that you can "pledge" to match during the
season. You can just pick one, a few of them, all of them, or you can even make up your own
categories. Then, just post the pledges you have made on this thread, and we will keep track
of the numbers and give you updates of your current total throughout the season.

To give you an idea about how much a pledge for each this year's categories could calculate
out to, we have listed how much pledges would have equaled out to using last season's
statistics. If you would like to know an estimated number like this for your own category, visit
ohiobobcats.com to look at the official statistics for 2009.
(http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2009-201...)

We will list the donor totals after each game in order of donation amount to see who our
current leaders are. The totals for the offense, defense, and special teams categories have
also been kept close to "challenge" each part of the team to come away with the highest
amount of the donations.

At the end of the season, we will let you know what your donation total is by PM. Checks based
on the honor system can be mailed by each donor individually at the conclusion of the season
to the Ohio University Athletic Department. You can use your donation to get you benefits through
the Bobcat Club and double your total if the place where you work offers a company match.

One last thing, it is never to late to get involved in the Challenge, so feel free to join up,
pledge donations for a win in a game, or announce new categories in addition to your existing
pledges midway through the season. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM myself
or mcbin.

Thanks!

Gentlemen, again, thank you for tracking these pledges for us.

I want to get started with the basics; please add 1, 4, 8, 9, 13, and 14 to my challenge list.

In addition to those, I'll pledge $100 for each of the following:
- East Division Title
- MAC Championship
- Bowl win
- and, what the h^%$, any Top 25 appearance, at any point in the year, in any national poll (that doesn't allow grad assts. to vote for head coaches).

GO CATS!

Would be good to get back to the MAC Championship and win, but even just getting there will be no small task. Hopefully our experience last year will help us to pull out the win if we do. That would be sweet.

But, actually even more than a MAC Championship, I want a win over Ohio State. I think they will be gunning for us considering their narrow victory the last time we visited Columbus, but I want to pledge $100 if OUr men can pull it off.

Pledges for my categories to follow...

I am in for all categories #1 - #14 this year

Double donations for MAC championship game and for bowl game.

My usual category of $1.00 for each push-up done by the cheerleaders during the homecomng game. (1 pushup is done for each Ohio point on the score board after a score.  A 4 touchdown game with 2 field goals in between last two touchdowns would result in 127 pushups and $127 donation. (this pledge came about because my daughter was a cheerleader at Ohio for '98-'01 seasons)

I am adding my own new category this year.  I am calling it the Cardiac Challenge.  (I happened to suffer cardiac arrest early this summer which resulted in CPR (my son-in-law who is also an Ohio alum did the CPR). After having open-heart bypass surgery I am almost back to normal and relish the thought of testing my new cardiac plumbing and wiring...SOOO for any victory by Ohio in the last play of the game in regulation or a win in overtime I will pledge $25.

$25 for the Dan Lowe fund (doubled with win over Miami.)

If I have any money left after celebrating a victory over tOSU I will pledge $50 for that win.

I guess that is it for this year.  This  is still the greatest way to make a fun donation to The Ohio Bobcat Club.

Thanks to all for the hard work that goes into this.

Wow bobcat2nc. Glad to hear that you are okay and the road to recovery. Here is to watching many more bobcat wins in good health.

Also, I really like the Cardiac Challenge category. And these Cardiac 'Cats do have a way of playing with your emotions like they did to us so commonly last season.

No problem Ceramic. Pledge however you like. If you want to change your pledges a little or add a pledge or two during the season that's fine too.

Okay, I have finally decided what I want to pledge.

First of all, I will pick two each of  the base categories. Running game important and gotta support the O-line so 1 & 5 for Offense. I like the idea of giving for every tackle and the defense mentioned in their interviews they want to try to get a shutout or two this year so 6 & 9 for Defense. Like the idea of awarding a punter for accuracy and without Garrett now we are going to need a new go to kick-off return man so 12 & 13 for Special Teams.

Also, want to make the following new pledges:

$6 for each rushing touchdown by a runningback
$4 for each game with no offensive turnovers

$12 each time a D-lineman recovers a turnover and scores (still brings a tear to my eye... ha)

$2 each time special teams recovers a fumble
w/ $6 bonus if it is run in for a touchdown

$10 for magical win number 10

$11.00 for the Marching 110 if they show up the OSU band in their own stadium.

Hello everyone.

Finally got the spreadsheet done based off last year's one and got it to calculate win bonuses
automatically now. Figure I will improve it a little more every year until it can do pretty much
everything automatically.

Wofford definitely served their purpose as a practice game and helped us to knock off some
of the rust. Here is hoping for a win to open up MAC play this Saturday against an opponent
that we historically have not fared well against.

Here are your weekly totals.

1.  colobobcat66 $43.86
2.  bobcat2nc $32.36
3. Monroe Slavin, CPA $25.00
3.  bobcatgrad $22.53
4.  CeramicBobcat $10.83
5.  Bobcatbob $5.03
6.  Bobcat36 $4.71

Total to Date:   $144.32

Okay Monroe, will do.

Yep, a small crowd again this year. But, just like last year, what we lack in quantity, we make up in quality.

Would I like more donors to participate? Heck yeah. But, up there I don't see 6 donors (now 7). I see over $100 already that help out Ohio Athletics and that it is definitely a good thing.

We have so much going for our athletics programs right now, so all that is left is getting behind and supporting OHIO to keep this momentum going.

  Message Not Read  Game 1 - Wofford - Team totals
   Posted: 9/10/2010 6:44:21 AM
To the Ohio Football Team,

First of all congratulations on your first win.

For the Offense, it was good to see the running game come back in full force and we can only hope that this is a trend that will continue for the rest of the season. We only had one big play, but the overall effort was enough to take care of the Terriers.

 $  0.01 per 3 rushing yards x 230 =  $   3.07
 $  0.00 per 6 passing yards x 101 =  $   0.34
 $  0.75  per big (25 yd.) play x 1 =  $   0.75
 $  2.40 for a touchdown x 3 =  $   7.20
 $  0.75 per quarter with no sacks x 2 =  $   1.50
 $  0.50 each rushing 1st down on 3rd or 4th x 3 =  $   1.50
 $  6.00 for each rushing touchdown by a runningback x 2 =  $ 12.00
        TOTAL  $ 26.35

For the Defense, we did have 3 turnovers in the game, but only one of those three we registered by the Defense. Nevertheless, it is good to see the trend of turnovers keep going from last year so good luck in keeping this going against Toledo. 77 tackles were registered in this game with team captain Keller leading all tacklers with a total of 9. Also, you posted two shutout quarters.

   $  0.02 per tackle x 77 =  $   1.54
w/  $  0.06 bonus for every TFL yard  x 3 =  $   0.18
   $  2.00 $0.50 per turnover x 1 =  $   2.00
   $  1.00 per shutout quarter   x 2 =  $   2.00
          TOTAL  $   5.72

For Special Teams, besides the one random miss on the extra point, a very solid game. Whenever you get two turnovers and then are able to have the able legs of a ready and waiting Posey pick the ball up and run it into the endzone, you know that you had a good game. Both field goals were good and punting was pretty decent.

   $  0.15 per extra point x 2 =  $   0.30
   $  0.35 per field goal   x 2 =  $   0.70
   $  0.01 per kick return yard x 70 =  $   0.70
   $  0.02 per punt return yard x 13 =  $   0.26
   $  0.01 per net punt yard x 83 =  $   0.83
   $  2.00 each time special teams recovers a fumble   2 =  $   4.00
w/  $  6.00 bonus if it is run in for a touchdown   x 1 =  $   6.00
          TOTAL  $ 12.79

   Posted: 9/15/2010 12:05:37 PM
Hey all,

To say we had a tough loss last Saturday would be quite a bit more than an understatement. Let's just hope it was the same token losses we have suffered in the past right before we go on a long winning streak. Starting that winning streak with Ohio State would be nice indeed, but I will be happy just to see OUr team represent Ohio University proudly as they should. And then, if the unthinkable happens who knows? We I know one thing at least-- some of us will owe some more donations.

So here are our current running totals for all our donors.

Go 'Cats!!! There is only one OHIO baby!!!

1 colobobcat66 $51.45
2 bobcat2nc $38.95
3 bobcatgrad $27.01
4 Monroe Slavin, CPA $25.00
5 CeramicBobcat $13.27
6 Bobcat36 $7.91
7 Bobcatbob $7.38
Quantcast
Total to Date:
$170.96

As the cheerleader alumni daugher of bobcat2nc and the wife of the guy who saved his life, I would like to contribute to a challenge!

This is my first time doing a challenge and I would like to do the cheerleader pushup challenge for the Homecoming game.

And dad, I am all in for exciting, nail-biting games with the Cardiac Challenge, but I think we've had enough "heart-stopping excitement" over this past summer...:)

LET'S GO BOBCATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once a Bobcat, Always a Bobcat.

Alright welcome aboard CarolinaCat, I have added you to the cheerleader category in the second post . And once again, so glad bobcat2nc is here and able to participate in the 'Challenge this year. If we only had one donor participating and it was him, I would still consider it still plenty worth all the hours spent!

Also, we have had brothers participate together before,and even parents of players, but I believe this is the first time we have had a father and daughter participate together. Welcome and I hope you have fun with it while helping out Ohio athletics.

To the OHIO football team,

Talk about a frustrating game. There were good things that you did and plenty of things that need serious work which I am sure you don't need to have a fan like me sit here and tell you. Unfortunately, the totals this week reflect the lackluster performance on one end, and on the other don't recognize some of the other performances enough. But, I am sure you will have much bettter games this season so just work to improve and we will be here supporting you.

To the Offense, unfortunately the running game could not get going and the one big play was the passing 35 yard passing TD to Riley Dunlop which somewhat illustrates the fact that the team is going to have to execute better to open up this types of big passing play that we lived and died by at points last season.

$0.01  per 3 rushing yards                               x 46 =  $0.61
$0.00  per 6 passing yards                              x 137 =  $0.46
$0.75   per big (25 yd.) play                              x 1 =  $0.75
 $2.40  for a touchdown                                     x 1 =  $2.40
$0.75  per quarter with no sacks                    x 3 =  $2.25
$0.50  each rushing 1st down on 3rd or 4th x 2 =  $1.00
                                                                             TOTAL =  $7.47

To the Defense, I think you guys can really hold your heads up high about your performance and now just look at areas to get even better. You were given short fields to work with way to often, and considering this, I felt you responded very well. Toledo only got in one time without the help fo a short field. Keller got a sack and narrowly missed getting another and 2 turnovers keeps the team on pace to keep the run going from last year.

$0.02  per tackle                                x 92 =  $1.84
w/  $0.06  bonus for every TFL yard  x 6 =  $0.36
$0.90  per sack                                   x 1 =  $0.90
$2.00  per turnover                              x 2 =  $4.00
$1.00  per shutout quarter                   x 1 =  $1.00
                                                             TOTAL =  $8.10

To Special Teams, after the game Solich said you guys played more badly than he could remember special teams ever playing under his watch, but he was able to better focus on your bright spots as well during the weekly press conference. Two great kicks by Weller. Especially the first one of 49 yards (!) . And actually no one returned any of the punts as much as Ohio fans overall do not appear to be a fan of the rugby style kicks. Also the one straight away punt had really good distance. We did pretty good on returning kicks compared how poorly punt returns went for us, but we need people to show us that last burst of break away speed to and take it to the house sometime soon.

 $0.15  per extra point x 1            =  $0.15
 $0.35  per field goal                   x 2 =  $0.70
 $0.20  per punt inside the 20   x 2 =  $0.40
 $0.01  per kick return yard       x 81 =  $0.81
 $0.02  per punt return yard        x 2 =  $0.04
 $0.01  per net punt yard        x 244  = $2.44
                                             TOTAL =  $4.54

And as usual, here are your weekly totals...

Game 1 - Wofford
Offense:             $26.35
Special Teams: $12.79
Defense:             $5.72
Total:                 $44.86

Game 2 - Toledo
Defense:              $8.10
Offense:               $7.47
Special Teams:  $4.54
Total:                   $20.11

To the OHIO football team,

Well, unfortunately no W all but completely prevented you from earning any donations by the team's combined effort this week, but you still earned a sizeable donation last week for taking care of business against  Wofford.

This week, there is a total of $350 to go to Ohio athletics if you do the impossible and defeat #2 ranked Ohio State. But, without saying the team has absolutely no chance to win this game because I think we still do, I think there are two things that should be focused on and then just let the cards fall where they may.

1. Don't leave any unfinished plays on the field.
     In the past when the team didn't earn a category I used to write that the category the team "failed to earn those
     donations". But, then I came to my senses and began writing that as "left unearned". I think this keeps more
     with the spirit of football. Not everything goes as planned. Put in the end, when you add up the some total of all
     the good plays and bad plays, you find out if you did enough to get the W. So go out there against 'State and
     execute your gameplan.
2. Represent your university with pride.
    We aren't as big of a school as Ohio State, we don't have as many wins in our history as they do, we don't have
    the huge stadium that they have and settle for our picturesque spot next to the Hocking River and hills, but Ohio
    is a great place to go to school and our sports teams also have a lot of tradition to be proud of so hold your
    heads high and fight hard out there.

So without further ado, here are your totals for the first two weeks.

Game 1 - Wofford - $70.00
Game 2 - Toledo   - $0.00

Current Team running total: $70.00

Also, I am doubling my pledge for this game to give you more motivation. So there is now $450 on this game if you pull off the impossible task of knocking the bucks off of their pedestal.

Go 'Cats!!!!!!

--- EDIT

Also, almost forgot, to any of the 110 members out there, my pledge still stands for $11 if the Marching 110 shows up the OSU band in their own stadium. And it would also be very nice to see bobcat2nc's "Cardiac Challenge" make it's first debut in this game.

$10 for every additional mascot Rufus beats up this season.

I've seen crazier things happen.
