CNBC had a recent article on attendance this season for football, here is its final paragraph:

Not MAC Daddy: The MAC had tremendous trouble getting fans to the game. Seven of the bottom 10 teams in attendance were from the MAC and none of those teams (Eastern Michigan, Miami University, Western Michigan, Buffalo, Akron and Ball State) drew more than 16,000 fans per game. Ball State had the worst attendance among FBS schools at 8,947 fans per game.

Low fan interest in the MAC is directly correlated with poor play on the field. The difference at schools like Boise and Fresno is they've been winning on a big stage for years so 30,000 will turn out a game for that product. Unfortunately the MAC can only support at most 2 teams in the top 25 and the majority of the league will continue to lag. The only thing we can do is try to maximize Ohio's numbers. The program is ready for another 2 or 3 thousand premium seats on top of what is already there. Get the program to 25,000 a game by any means possible then ratchet up the ticket price.

You're kidding right?  We don't sell all of the premium seats we have now.

I've heard the Tower Club and Phillips are pretty packed, at least as much is said when I inquire for single game tickets for those sections. Jim Schaus has reiterated the need to get more premium seating in the stadium. My idea is to re-design the stands adding a few rows in front and benchbacks all the way to row 10. Do it on both sides of the stadium and that is another 2500 benchback seats. Premium seats are more important, IMO than more capacity (though I like to see the stadium up to 27,000).

There are many good seats in those sections, not to mention the wonderful seats in the end zone.

I'd also like to see 20k for real in the Stadium.

In more detail what I'd like to see is more rows added in both granstands with a greater pitch. SBH has commented on that being a problem matching up the tower club line of sight. My response to that is don't raise the pitch on the tower side (I would still do it for the first 10 rows of benchbacks though). Bump the listed capacity up to 26,000 this way but move the family packs to the tower side seats, leaving both north corner sections for visitors. The home stands will look packed that way while the north sections empty but then the program can go out and offer the entire 5,000 seats of those sections to visitors. That may be a way to get some bigger names in the stadium. I wouldn't go bigger than 26-27k because I can only think of maybe 5 games that have exceeded 22k in the last 10 years and the program couldn't fill a 40k stadium with the program down in the dumps like Marshall is attempting unsuccessfully. I just want to see the OHIO program maximize its revenue and I think benchbacks with a few more rows are the answer.

Wes, SBH's comment regarding the pitch of the Tower Club seats not matching up is due to the fact that the tower seats were built in 1990 when the field was at ground level, in 01 the track was moved and the field lowered 10+ feet. Those seats do not match up as they were not designed for the current set up, just like some seats can not view the scoreboard because of the weight room and the game clock is not visible from the field when there is a crowd.

As for the crowds, we do not need to increase our stadium size to get to a 26,000+ gate, we simply need to scan a few more student tickets to help pad the numbers.

Add a few rows in front? These seats would have no view at all.
