I'm just curious, but does anyone care to venture a guess what the defensive backfield will look like this fall? Given that they don't release any depth charts in the Spring, its hard for me to guess.  I can guess that Moore will start at one Safety, and that Carrie will start somewhere, and that both Leftwichs will play, but beyond that, I'm not sure. Could Carrie move to Safety, making room for both Leftwichs to start at the corners? Other possible contributors:
Senior - Gonzales-Santos
Redshirt Sophomores - Shaw, Hughes, Timson
Redshirt Freshmen - Carpenter, Ingol, Kristoff
True Freshmen - Wells, Macer, Bass, Fisher
Transfers - Denton
Walkons - Clark, Furbay, Szink, Hairston, White, Fay

I'd bet we see Carpenter, Ingol and Denton at some point this season...

I'm personally pretty excited to see what Carpenter can do!

Carpenter and Denton were out there on the field Saturday......both should get some pt.....Ingol sure has the size (210)  for the safety position.

Here's the DB's I expect to see in the order of "most playing time to least playing time"

Carrie, Omar Leftwich, Octavius Leftwich, Hughes, Denton, ?????

Boy, we really lost a lot here. Does anyone know what's up with Kenny Jackson?

I'm not particularly worried about this position. Moore, Carrie, and the Leftwichs are four that we know can play. There are 18 others on the list, from which they need to find perhaps four solid players to fill out the top two strings, and some others that can help with special teams. Mostly I was just curious who seems to be rising to the top.

I think we will see a lot of players in the defensive backfield but if I had to guess starters,
cb-Carrie
cb-Omar Leftwich
s-Moore
s-Hughes (Really impressed with him in the spring game)

I also expect to see a lot of Oc. Leftwich and Mose Denton, Ryan Clark  and possibly Jamil Shaw at corner.
Other players at safety Carpenter and Ingol are my best guesses. It will be interesting to see how the secondary shakes out. Looks like a lot of talent but not a ton of experience. I would have felt better with Kenny Jackson in the mix.

Just curious about this thread and the one regarding the top 5 newcomers. How are you posters getting your info? Are you watching practices, spring game, inside sources? How can you know this stuff?

I would say probably all of the above.

For example...I don't watch practices but I know people that do.

Living in Chicago, most of what I'm writing are wild a** guesses. I read the articles in the post and on ohiobobcats.com, keep track on twitter and I watched some of the recap videos they have up, etc...

So for instance, in one of the practice recap articles someone asked one of the coaches about Mose Denton. My guess is, this means that he must be looking pretty good because otherwise they wouldn't be talking about it. Based on this and his recruiting film, I would say he'll be a contributor this year. So I suppose that is my approximation algorithm for making guesses :)

Any observation that I made was based on what I saw in the spring game. Also what I have read and seen on various web sites. Any chance to talk and project on-field happenings I love to jump into, best part about this board.

Being another 1500 miles farther away than P. Graham, I'm just flat out making stuff up.

As usual.

Ha! Awesome. Sometimes I do wish I lived closer. Sneak out of the office for a long lunch, grab some food and watch some practice! Sounds like heaven.

We have had some very good players in the secondary under Solich. This seems to always be strength for us. Looks like we got some great players once again.  Couple all-MAC players in this group pretty much every year for Frank.  We get the D-line in good shape the secondary will be getting turnovers. D-line line the biggest question mark on the football team.
