First thoughts:  No Saturday games in November, and Miami during finals week.  I do like that we're on TV four times (potentially), but no regularity to the end of the season will surely test the mental strength of our team.

My only hope is that we'll be ranked when the time comes those games will be a little more interesting to watch for the casual viewer.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not bashing the scheduling decisions, just interesting to note!

I don't understand this. They finally fixed the Miami series and now they want to kill it again? No one is going to attend the 11/22 no matter the opponent. So why not play Miami on a Saturday and switch Ball St. or Kent St. to the 11/22 game? You want to educate your students on what a rivalry is and you hide it on 11/22? The Ohio/Miami games have been some of the best the last 5 years.

Nice break just before the last four...can we call it a year after the 10/22 game?

Man, I hate MAC football in November!  Nastier weather and really empty stadiums.

Oops, and to add, Ted is right.  Playing Miami then is just plain stupid.  It might be for "something" and nobody will be there.  The league thinks that since it may be for "something" people will show up.  The league offices are wrong again (see Temple vs. Miami).

And somebody please tell me, other than ESPNXXXX exposure, just what is the financial incentive to OHIO for doing this?  There is a new world order out there and I say "if it don't make financial sense, don't do it".

Miami is the last day of finals, meaning all the underclassmen will already be kicked out of the dorms by that point. Even if the division is up for grabs I can't see that being a well-attended game. I would have much rather switched Miami with Kent St or Ball St (or Temple if you still wanted to get it on TV).

The good news is we aren't having a game on Halloween this year.

You can complain about the schedule all you want but you can't complain about the publicity. I love the three ESPN 2 appearances even though we all know how weekday games affect attendance. I'm definitely day dreaming about that Temple game already (opportunity to be 8-0, ), Wednesday night game, on ESPN 2. It has a certain Boise feel to it.

2011-'12 could be the most critical year for Bobcat Athletics across the board for many many reasons.

Reminds me of the Lupe Fiasco song Superstar:

If we're undefeated come those TV games.....  Wow.  If not, we're going to have some empty stadiums.

I'm guessing this is a "picked" matchup by ESPN2, as in "if you guys play Miami on 11/22, we'll put it on TV." Is money from ESPN involved when these decisions are made?

I'm excited about watching the away games during the week in November.  While the Miami game may be poorly attended it is clear the league considers these two teams as the main contenders and gives a MAC east championship appearance to the last game for Miami and OUr final tune-up before we take on the Rockets in Detroit.

I'm happy there is not an after Thanksgiving Day game.  The heart of the schedule is also home/away and not like the lousy schedule of several years ago when Ohio had no October Saturday home games.  All in all a very good schedule IMO.

For out of state Alumni this is great, if we are in the hunt it will be a great chance for them to see the last stretch of games, especially with two being Temple and Miami.  I know for sure that my older brother in Arizona will be estatic.

Very valid point Ted.  It's almost this - is Miami a rival or not.  The dorms will close at 5 or 6 that night and even though the game could be for the MAC east title, it's not the same as a conference title.  There's still one more game to play to be league champs.  For out of town folks the tv is nice - we all enjoy watching our team on tv no matter who that team might be.  It's just sad when you have a tailgate for 150 and only 8 to 10,000 actually show up in the stands and that's assuming we have good weather and a decent record.  Up till HC, this schedule is fine.  After that - ?

Dislike the late Miami game -- wish that was homecoming again, that really made the whole weekend better.  Don't care for the plethora of weeknight games from an attendance point of view, but from my selfish won't-be-in-Athens-anymore point of view, I am glad they will be available for me to watch.

Its the level of ball we play.  Either we play these weeknight games, or we go the Akron route, lose every possible game, then don't get selected for TV and end up with every home game on a Saturday -- and nobody will come then, either.

Just win, it is the best cure.  The rest is out of our control.

It's time to start figuring out the schedule by all those other view points.
Like, what was each opponents W-L record last year. While I haven't looked yet I'm thinking there may only be 3-4 teams that had a winning record.
What about how many teams went to a bowl game last year. I guess 3.
Then there is the last part of this analysis.......is this a weak schedule?
Let the analysis begin.

Probably something like that.  For years, that was the slot for the Toledo-BGSUCKS game.  But lately neither has been that competitive, so last year they put in Temps-Fiami.

I would really like to see the Nov. 2 game vs. Temps as Senior Night.  I know they usually have it as the last home game, but it's never made much sense to have Senior Night (or Day) when no kids are on campus.  Maybe the Fiami game could then be Fan Appreciation  Night, as in "We'd appreciate it if any fans show up."

wow, assuming we have a suitable replacement for Boo we could realistically go into Halloween 8-0, or 7-1 at worst. And then 4 straight ESPN games? shoot, I'll take it.

I agree that the Maimi game could be problematic but if we're having a special season then maybe some more alumni arrange their travel schedule to come home for Thanksgiving a couple days early so they can go to Athens? or like I think Miami did last year, the school keeps the dorms open an extra night for the game? if its a big game there might be a chance to turn some lemons into lemonaid.

all in all, looks like a very winnable schedule.

Playing CMU and BG in November is going to be difficult.  Hopefully the running game will be very good.  Both sites in Nov.  means high winds and cold, cold ,and  cold..  We have a favorable schedule, the Nov. dates are all crucial games.

My thoughts exactly...

I wonder how much say Coach Solich has in all this...This is the most favorable schedule we've seen in a long long time...We have a ton of talent returning (please for the love of all that's Holy keep Brazil off of Special Teams)...We have a very real chance to reach national ranking status and we're busy selling out the entire month of November playing 3 games in 13 days...I don't agree with it at all.

When we can finally hang a MACC banner in Peden, no one will remember how many times we were on ESPN...This season is a rare aligning of the stars and the Administration is doing it's best to undermine it...

Makes the road trip to NM more appealing now, and a driving trip of Buffalo then on to Athens for Homecoming will be a decent fall distraction.

The sched definitely squelches my ability to attend the late season games, but I am glad they don't make the schedule out with me in mind because I think this team being on TV in four successive weeks says alot about where the program is now.  It also likely trumps Gman's ability to host MH55 at his tailgate.

With these two games being midweek and without a big money game this season, it will really put the pressure on the Department to generate revenue in other areas.  Hopefully there is network money to offset the depressed gate.

Sure will miss seeing the Fiami and Temps games in person, and like the previous poster I think you might see the Administration agreeing to keep dorms open an extra day as a "thank you" to students for a quarter well done and to boost support at the Miami game.

In my mind, the Rutgers game is the season defining game, no offense to Marshall.  Despite their down season last year, Schiano has really lifted that program, and if Frank and the team come prepared to compete in a hostile environment and pull out a victory, it tee's up the rest of the season.  Glad I'll see that one in person.

So here's to a trip to Detroit for the MACC and then a bowl game, both ending in victory.

The Few, The Proud, The Bobcats!

And for the record, I hate tOSU, and Ricordati and Torgerson are DB's.

That is playing somewhat lose with numbers.  A typical run of four Saturday games is in 22 days and a 3 run Saturday string is played in 15 so not a big deal when you consider it is coming off a greater than one week break and by playing Miami days before Thanksgiving instead of after, Ohio will have a longer break to prepare for Detroit--maybe even let the boys go home for Thanksgiving.  Additionally, the Red Skunks the final opponent are in a similar situation.

Hate to say that revenue might be an issue. You don't get extra money for appearing on ESPN -- that is a conference contract, negotiated last year, which gives money to the conference, which splits it among the members.

I doubt very much that the administration has much, if any, say in games being moved for TV.

More argument for shrinking the conference rather than expanding it, in my eyes.
