For anybody interested in really understanding the number behind college athletics, I recommend following Kristi Dosh(SportsBizMiss) on Twitter or by going to the Business of College Sports Website.  She provides answers to a lot of questions that people speculate about on this forum.  The first link I have provided shows the exact reason why football and basketball drive the college athletics bus.  People complain about how much is spent on football and basketball, but the fact of the matter is that those two sports subsidize, whether you are Ohio State or Ohio, the other sports.  Does Ohio subsidize the other sports entirely like Ohio State does? NO, but every little bit counts.

Also, think about the room that football and basketball have for continued growth in revenues.  If basketball continues improve and finds consistency, the convocation center will provide a lot of opportunity for revenue.  If football continues to improve(and for the scheduling nuts out there...bring in quality opponents), there is a lot of room for growth.  My hope in all of this is that these numbers and the research that SportsBizMiss has provided puts to rest, at least a little, the complete speculation of numbers on this forum.

Also, I hope Mr. Swank will now understand that while his seat donation is not going directly to volleyball, it is certainly helping to subsidize it and all the other great olympic sports at Ohio University!  Let me know if you are on the bus yet Swank.

I think Mr. Swank's complaint is that his Volleyball donations do not count for his seat requirement, not the other way around.  In other words, the department is discouraging from donors from giving to certain areas.  That is what I take from Mr. Swank's arguements, and I can not say I disagree with him.
