College Football News consistently puts out the best team by team preview of online sources. It goes into a lot of detail. One criticism is that I think the author is unaware of the emphasis we put on defensive line recruitment and how many new guys from that group could contribute. I don't really imagine that Nic Barber and Corey Hasting are going to be in the regular rotation. I've also never heard of this Josh Kristoff character.

It was a nice write up as far as I'm concerned.

I really hope that Snyder turns out to be a QB you can set your watch to. My expectations are much lower for Son of Diamond King and Bates. The writer is totally correct in saying "The receiving corps is terrific, but it won’t get a chance to show off without some help." It's sad to see WR weapons wasted yearly.

I LOLed when I read "and then comes the mid-level bowl-like game against Marshall". Come on. It's more like a low level bowl-like game. Hell, the 2009 Pizza Bowl could be described as bowl-like at best.

Link is for their projected depth chart.  What say you all.  The OL should  be good, finally where good teams are.  Starters have been shaving for a long time, been lifting for a long time and there is depth to allow the coaches to rest starters if the offense manage to control the game/clock.

I'd say that's an outstanding article, and should fire up some early football fever. Their depth charts are usually right on, so I'd guess we'll be getting used to hearing some new names, including Hastings and Kristoff, but that happens every year. The lineup looks solid at most positions, but there will no doubt be some incoming Freshmen recruits that want to try to disrupt the depth chart by inserting their own names. Who will it be? Your guess is as good as mine...

Quick look at the depth chart shows not a ton of seniors.

A couple of JUCO's and some redshirt freshman no doubt will land on the depth chart.....but as L.C. said the true freshman are intriguing and COULD be a key to our season....here's a few of my predictions for depth chart additions....true freshman left off may be more talented....just find themselves in a position where depth is already there:

RB/KR- Kyle Hammonds

WR-Landon Smith

NG- Antwan Crutcher

DT-Justin Haser

DE-Eric Price-Andrew Bennett-Tony Davis

S-Aaron Macer

And so I hope they will redshirt and we will see them as RS Srs. vs true Fr.  That is a trade I will make every time.

Of course......but injuries and other unforeseen circumstances (grades, campus bouncers, etc.) can cause a problem in a hurry. In the past this has been the death knell of OUr team.  This year positions like the OL should be OK....that's why I didn't even mention them.

The bottom line is that IF a true freshman or 2 just knock your socks off and are a step above others then you can't let them rust on the bench....if that was the case you'd have an automatic red shirt rule.....and you wouldn't load up in an area of need like the DL this year with true freshman.

This is the most complete coverage I've seen theis year so far.
It could have been even more complete with coverage of the incomming class.
I have to say this report sound right on. Yes, are there thoughts expressed here and there in the article that one might disagree with sure but overall I think it is a good job.

I agree...This is by far the most thorough write-up I've seen.  Very well done and very accurate.  The only miss I see is the fact that Riley's not listed in the top 10 players...That kid is a stud!

I was disappointed to see N'Goumou at 3rd on the depth chart...I think Foster's really going to shine this year but thought for sure he'd at least make the 2 deep.  Hopefully it's just a grasp of the offense thing cuz I expect him to be a force in the coming years.

Also noted one of the fun facts detailed our horrendous performance against onside kicks last year...That was painful to watch...Sure hope that's a point of focus in Fall camp!

I'll respectably disagree.  The Toledo game last season was winnable up to the very end and all it MIGHT have taken was to send Boo to the bench and turn to either of the red shirted QB's.  I would have traded a year of eligibility  of either for a potential win.  Who knows, if one had come in he may have taken over the job and had lots of game experience that we don't have this season.

Over in basketball,  the injured Stevie "Fresh" who was injured early in the season that saw the Bobcats win in the NCAA may have come back to join the team and give some needed rest to some mighty tired players who had to play 6 games in less than two weeks.  He left the program so the red shirt was wasted.

T Pryor up Rt 33 had he been red shirted, he may have only contributed two years before being run out of town.

Use them when they can benefit the TEAM and don't worry about some day that in the end, may never come.

Over on Pre-Snap, Virginia is picked as the 78th best team and here's the next clue, could it be Ohio?

He wasn't ready.

Not convinced.  You would send in a freshman QB in place of the schools top rated QB (statistically) in his senior season.  This trade you believe will produce a "potential win."  This you will do in trade for what that freshman athlete would be able to produce after four years of growth, lifting, meetings and experience.  The system allows programs to field fifth year seniors who will whip up on freshmen every time.  JMHO.

Hmm . . . interesting.  I assume that you are thinking about Rufus Putnam.  According to the ever semi-accurate wikipedia, there are three Putnam bridges in the US: one in NY, one in Connecticut and one in Ohio.  So, the facts don't exactly fit, but then my source is wikipedia, so it still could be Ohio.

77 turns out to be Army.

We won't be 76:

Who is No. 76? Tomorrow’s university is the only one in its conference to be named after a person, not a location or direction.

That's a cool hint.  I think Vandy and Baylor are both valid answers.

If neither has appeared in the count-up yet, my money is on Vandy.  Baylor should be ranked a little higher.

Yeah, that's probably right. Baylor should be higher than 76, and Vandy is already on the list.
