Very good crowd showed and even the parents of a walk-on DE, the attendees took up just about all the seating in the section we were housed.  Coach Groce spoke first followed by Coach Solich.

Recalling several of the points Coach Solich made:

He thinks there are several true freshman that will make contributions this season.

The team  most likely will have a young QB and said Phil Bates has a shot but since he wasn't able to play in the spring that he will need to quickly show that he can be an accurate passer and if he does he can really help at that spot and if not they'll move him to where he can contribute.  The question was asked, could that be RB and Coach answered that Phil runs in a style of standing pretty straight and that he'd take quite a beating as an RB unless he modified. Coach said that WR would be more likely as he has outstanding hands and with his size, speed and strength he'd be a tough match for many of the corners the Bobcats will face.  IMO--How about safety, if he could stick guys and love doing it, man would a 225lb mover be an awesome addition on that side of the ball.

Coach praised the kickers and the long snapper and the punt and kick returners as being real strengths and he expects the special teams to be solid because of the team depth.  He specifically mentioned that CB Travis Carrie may be one on the team that NFL scouts talk about in the future and with he and Omar the position is in good hands.  Gerald Moore's foot/toe injury was explained and Coach said it is yet to be determined if Moore will immediately pick up where he left off or if it will take time as others with that injury have lost some speed.

At RB he said ideally you want one guy for the bulk of the carries instead of doing it by committee.

Sorry but I was too busy eating the potato perogi to recall his other comments.

Thanks MC....good stuff.

Bates did play some WR at Iowa State......like to see Bates make a catch like Boo did last year.

I think some true freshman will surprise. This team has more depth than I can ever remember (maybe shouldn't have said that) and with all the competition someone is gonna rise to the top and impress if and when they get the chance.....probably on the d line.

Nice event.  Coach also said we're going to a no huddle next year, which provides an additional 20 snaps per game.  We need to avoid 3 and outs otherwise the defense will be gassed.  He likes the experience of the O-line and seemed a bit apprehensive of the inexperience on the D-line.  Brazill was 100% in spring practice.  Keller not quite, but he expects him to be all the way back for the season. He seems really comfortable with the QB position, whoever wins it. Spoke highly of Tettleton's passing ability.  Bates will play regularly somewhere.

Potato pierogis were outstanding.

I have been to all three of the caravans in Cleveland, still very disappointed with the crowds, as many Cleveland Bobcat alums as there are???  Free, food, usually held at a quality drinking spot, no reason we should not have well over 100-150 people......maybe more..

just a thought
