Wow! How did that thing even get published? That has got to be one of the worst "articles" ever written. That makes some of the threads I've been ashamed to have on BA.com look like Pulitzer material.

No wonder they put "Staff" in the byline...staff should be fired.

Basically they didn't even consider Solich and automatically moved him to the bottom because they are talking about "building a program for the next five years" and they expect he won't be around that long.

I know they were looking to the future, but the whole basis of ranking coaches on their potential is ridiculous.

Even if Solich is around for 1 or 2 more years, based on what he has done in Athens should put him higher on the list than the EIGHT head coaches who have only won 3 or less games in their head coaching careers, with 4 of those 8 never coaching a game as the head guy.

It would stand to reason that if we are looking at who is building a program, Solich has laid that foundation more than a guy who has only been on the job 6 months.

What coach would you want to run your program? Who's on the hot seat? As part of the 2011 Spring Preview, CFN ranks all the MAC coaches based on the future and not necessarily on how good they are right now.

They state very clearly up front what the rankings are based on. They were more than complimentary about what Frank has done here at OU.

) and it still doesn't make sense.

Per their instructions, I'm not reading it as "best coach" in the league list. They state "this is a ranking of the coaches you'd want to lead the program for the next five years or more." Then the writer(s) ranks a coach who they state will get fired NEXT year 2 spots ahead of Solich. I don't think that fits the article's theme.

I'm with Ryan, here. The definition and the choices don't match. Would you want Solich to lead your program for the next five years or more? I think most people here would, so using the specific method they give, he doesn't belong last.

Now, let's assume that what they said wasn't really quite what they meant. Let's assume they meant to rank based on "what coach would you like to lead your program for the next 5 years, and who is likely to do so". Is Solich healthy enough to coach another five years? Is he enjoying what he is doing? Is retirement mandatory? He might retire, and he might not. It's certainly not impossible that he would coach at Ohio another five years. Contrast that with the other coaches on the list. If ANY of them are successful, do you really believe that they will still be where they are in 5 years? Realistically I think the only one that might be is Bill Cubit because age could also be a factor for him.

OK, so that isn't a definition that matches the order of their picks, either. Is there any possible definition that might match that order? The best I could come up with was "If you were a Big Tendozen AD who might be looking for a new football coach in a few years, which MAC coaches would you be watching". That definition may match the order of their picks. Maybe...

This ranking is quite pointless, even if you take out their "future oriented" approach. Consider this: of the 13 MAC coaches, only 2 have coached more than TWO SEASONS at their current school...Solich and Cubit (WMU).

Of the rest, very few have any previous head coaching experience, and none have previous FBS head coaching experience. The jury's still out on all of these guys. Some will survive, some won't.

Rob Ianello is ranked above Frank. The same Rob Ianello who deferred the kickoff for BOTH HALVES in last year's home loss to Gardner Webb.

Every time I see one of these "articles" I am reminded why Al Gore invented the internet.. There is an infinite amount of space to be filled, mostly with drivel, so that someone with otherwise good intentions (?) can find it, read it, link it, quote it, dispute it, forward it, like it, retweet it and thereby create even more content. Too bad we can't use these writings to fuel our cars we wouldn't need hybrids at all.

The problem with Al Gore's invention is that any friggin moron with a computer can set up a website and spout BS. He would rather have Ron English (2-22) run his program for five years than Frank Solich, simply because Solich MIGHT decided to retire in two? I would take Solich setting up a five-year plan and leaving after two anyday. English would be lucky to make it through three, even if he weren't at large flightless bird that looks like an ostrich and tastes like a chicken.
