News is surfacing that Ohio A&M football players that could include the likes of Terrelle Pryor and Devier Posey could be suspended from the Sugar Bowl for receiving tattoos in exchange for autographs.

ten bucks say that the investigation concludes after the bowl game and finds them guilty, and then coach tressel only suspends them from the spring game.

The opposing team sucks!

All I can say is Wow.  How could the NCAA or THE OSU feel good about suspending a kid from a Bowl Game for something so petty?  What's a tat worth?  Are the "artists" big donors, too?

The fact that they are now tattoed should be punishment enough.

I guarantee you that after the Bowl Game, A&M will trot out all the graduating seniors for some "Fan Fest' where players will sit for hours to sign newly purchased "Officially Licensed" memorabilia.  Happens every year.

Not even the most jaded A&M hater could take joy in this, could they?

I'm hearing they're going to punish Prior by not starting him, then only using him on 3rd and long in obvious passing situations.

Not JCW... but I'll chime in.

The funny thing is one article went through the OSU media guide and took any photo of a starter that has tats and posted them just assuming that anyone that had a tattoo was guilty.

Pryor already tweeted that he paid for his tats and Brewster (their starting center) tweeted he gets all of his tats from his home town in Florida.

But if any player was stupid enough to give some autographs/jerseys for a free tattoo, they deserve to get suspended.

Then again, if this was the SEC they would have just paid for their tats from their signing money they got under the table. Or at the very least had their parents pay for the tattoo with memorabilia without the player knowing it, then it would have been fine.

Terrelle Pryor, Daniel Herron, DeVier Posey, offensive lineman Mike Adams and defensive end Solomon Thomas suspended the first five games of 2011. They can all play in the Sugar Bowl though.

Those first five games:
Akron
Toledo
@ Miami (FL)
Colorado
Michigan State

Could this cause osu to lose to an Ohio team for the first time since 1921? (Toledo obviously, not Akron). I can see them losing to Miami and Michigan State and starting 3-2 before they get everyone back.

Wow....

5 games for 2011 for Pryor, Herron, Posey, Adams (starting LT) and Solomon Thomas (backup DE)

I am betting that Pryor, Herron, Posey & Adams never serve that suspension and instead head to the NFL... dang All that for $1,000-$2,500 in benefits for kickbacks from selling jerseys and stuff.

Now I wish Ohio St was in the SEC as they all would have found 'nothing' and just ruled ineligible for one day like Cam Newton.

More info....

These penalties were handed down by the NCAA.

Ohio State actually suspended them for the Sugar Bowl, NCAA re-instated them for the bowl game and instead suspended them for the 5 games starting the 2011 season.

Also interesting sidebar, game #6 next season is at Nebraska.

Let 'em play in the bowl game, then suspend them for five that are pretty well meaningless.  Boy, that'll show 'em!

The NCAA has no spine.

Those games include Miami (FL), Colorado, and a big one against Michigan St.

I wouldn't call those meaningless.

Most of the Ohio State fans I know are pretty offended that they would sell things that should mean a lot to them.

Ohio State probably can win all five of those games without those guys. Colorado has a recent tradition of sucking. Miami isn't great, and although Michigan State had a good year, they're likely to be a middle-of-the-pack Big 10 team next year. And besides, the suspensions are going to be appealed and probably cut.

Pryor, Posey and Herron all are eligible for the draft this year. The other two are not yet. It will be interesting to see if Pryor still wants to come back knowing he's going to have to sit out some games. Apparently, he's eager for some extra cash.

Not only are they spineless, they have proven to me in the last few months that they may be the most corrupt organization we have in this country.

Cam Newton's father solicits (and it appears also received) $180,000.  Punishment?  Not one thing.

Reggie Bush's family receives a $300,000+ home.  Punishment?  USC gets hammered five years later while Pete Carroll bolts for the NFL and is still getting paid millions.  Kids on USC's current roster are suffering through sanctions they had nothing to do with and their new coach (who I extremely dislike, btw) loses scholarships.

This Ohio State mess is also bull.  Now, this is not 'Nam, there are rules.  These players clearly broke them.  It sounds like only one person received tatoo benefits, and the rest sold various items, including Big Ten Championship rings, shoes, jerseys, etc.  Sounds like the largest benefit received was around $2,500.  I just don't understand the NCAA here.  5 games?

Most players who go to bowls receive gifts.  What if you were awarded a Playstation 3, but you already own one, so you put it on eBay?  Apparently this is a violation?

This reminds me of back when Delvar Barrett was playing for OUr Bobcats.  Poor kid was taking care of his blind mother, and they had very little money.  Thanks to a wonderful ESPN special, the family received an outpouring of support from people all over the country, only to not be allowed to accept a damn thing because of NCAA rules.

What a joke of an organization.  Kid sells a ring that he earned for some cash to help his family (whether or not this is actually the case is a whole other topic).  You're suspended 5 games.

But we cannot have a playoff, becuase it is not in the best interest of the student athlete.....What a friggin' joke.

Yes you are - just ask A.J. Green.  The suspensions are consistent with what Georgia suffered.  Yes, that SEC team.

1.)  AJ Green received a 4 game suspension, not 5.
2.)  AJ Green sold his jersey to an agent, or at least someone who the NCAA deemed as an agent.

From what is being reported thus far, these players were not selling items to an agent.  So it is slightly different.

According to the SI.com story, the NCAA tacked on an extra game because the players didn't report their violations after finding out they had violated a rule.

Does anyone think Mr. SweaterVest will start another QB in the bowl game to set an example for other players and to enforce team discipline? ;-)

WOW, you really don't read my post or have a grasp on what I am about. I am 100% about personal accountability. If they did this then they suffer the consequences. Everyone's decisions has consequences.

I will also tell you this if you think these kids don't sell their valuables then you are not in the real world, do you think all our IPods made it home and are in use by their rightful owners? And if they get caught they get caught.

And he was one guy and they are multiple.  And I'm sure the tattoo man is a booster at some level.  They got caught (yes, others do it). time to do the time.

Tressel and the osu A.D. were quick to point out that the five can appeal their suspensions.  I'm betting that Tressel and the A.D.s will be quick to grant them at least part of their appeal as they have Michigan State as the fifth game.  They sure stopped short of suspending them for the NEBRASKA  game.  And, if they go pro - where's the punishment???  Paying back a restitution will be of little consequence.  And why don't they have to sit for the sugar bowl - would it be ARKANSAS?
Hey NCAA - I do believe that Georgia had to sit  a player for about the same thing - they didn't have 9 months to prepare for losing him.  How about some fair and equal treatment ???

I just find it sad that our players don't have any championship rings to sell, or any memorabilia of any value. These guys should have had their fathers sell their stuff (without their knowledge, of course). Than there would have been no violation and no penalty.

Why should he? These guys have been declared eligible for the bowl game by the NCAA.
