Well, I can't say that this report was the most knowledgeable in that there was no mention about coaching changes and it's impact on teams ie Kent State.

That was a well done piece.  Despite the flaws that '71 so rightfully pointed out.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict a couple of things.  First, Toledo will beat Ohio A&M in the Horseshoe and will run the table in their conference schedule, winning the MAC handily and finish the season as a top 25 team.

Second, as much as I hate to say it, I think the Bobcats have too many questions at QB, DL and RB to be a dominant team this year.  I can foresee major meltdowns against Marshall and Rutgers, and more than one unexpected defeat against the likes of Kent or Bowling Green as well as losing to the Chips in Mt. Pleasant where the Bobcats have always struggled,  Hell, they've never played well in Buffalo either.  We could even get toasted by Fiami and the Wols at home which would suck mightily.

So, I wouldn't be at all surprised by a 4-8 or 5-7 season.  It won't be Frank's fault so I hope that they don't can him over it.

I am looking to the first game against NMSU as the game that will set the tone for the rest of the season.  If they beat the snot out of the Aggies, and beat even more bodily excretions out of Gardner-Webb, then I might feel better about the rest of the season.  If they struggle against those two opponents, however, then I'll be ready to say we are in deep doo-doo and better start getting ready for next year.

But, boy, wouldn't 14 wins be nice?

GO BOBCATS!

Solid preview. One aspect not really addressed is the new coaches at Kent, Miami, and Temple and the potential impact on their seasons. You are pretty spot on about Kent State, Martin had been running the offense there for a decade and a new staff might be the spark they need to become a real contender. Miami on the other hand I think had success as a result of good coaching last year and may drop back. What happens at Temple is also a crap shoot with all the attrition in that program. Ohio is definitely as you said in the best postion to win the East and I also like how QB Derrius Vick stands out as our best recruit. If he has truely got the tools he should be on the field. It may be a situation where Tettleton and Snyder play primarily in the first 3-4 games until he has a hang of the playbook.

Only one time since the 2005 season have the Bobcats finished under .500. That was in 2008 with the Cats going 4-8 on an unusually difficult MAC schedule and an OOC with Wyoming, Northwestern, Ohio State. The schedule for Ohio breaks right this year in 2011 and the O Line is very stout which is usually the key for dominance by the BCS over non-BCS programs. The O Line is strong enough that it may very well not matter how good the QB or RB play turns out to be. Let's face it, the RB play has stunk for years and hasn't prevented the program from going 13-3 in the last two MAC regular seasons. I can't see how the RB play is going to be any worse. I am nervous about the QB spot but Tettleton and Snyder at a minimum have been in the program a few years. Ohio always can find a few good DLs out there. Inexperience is not necessarily a big deal at the DL position. Experience is much more critical on the offesnsive side of the ball.

I don't disagree with you, but as a Bobcat fan who has seen over 40 seasons I have painful memories of how dreams dissolve into nightmares.  I have high hopes for this season but can see so many things that can go wrong that I worry.  That is why, in my mind, they have to come out and smash their first two opponents this year to prove to me that they are for real.

I thought it was a very good piece.  Great that they recognized the return of Keller and (at least with a video clip) Brazill, and recognized at least one of the key questions -- QB (can't remember if they discussed the D line).  But I thought they rated Fiami too low.  Although they have a new coach, last I heard Treadwell says he doesn't plan many changes in game plan from last year.  That means he may let the kids play to their strengths and not to his philosophy, which would mean they will be tough to beat.  Solich did much the same thing his first year at OU and had them at 4-4 until injuries set in late and they lost the last three.  And I think Adazzio will want his own stamp on Temps, so they may find tough sledding while they go through the transition.  Fiami may be no better than 8-4 because of their schedule (nonconf losses to at least Mizzou and Cincy), but they should be at least 6-2 in the MAC (at most, losses at Toledo and at OU) and no worse than 2nd in the East.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

I watched Miami play 4-5 times last season and I thought they were the benefactor of smart but aggressive play calling by Haywood. They were going to lose to BG and he pulled that one out in the fog. The beat Temple, a team that is tough to outpower but easy to out coach. Miami had average MAC talent outside of QB but fantastic coaching. I'd probably rank them #3 behind Temple but not by much over most of the east. The only program out east that I think is hopeless is Akron, they are last in the country in returning letterman. One of BG, Kent, or Buffalo will surprise and have a winning season.
