Glad we're not #1...these guys never get the East right.  BTW, look out for BG.  The team picked fifth in this poll has won the East at least four times in the past 11 years, including Fiami last year and OU in '06 and '09.

Interesting that we received more 1st place votes than Miami but they are still picked 1st? Please explain how that works?

We must have got a lot of third and lower votes to go with those first-place votes. Not many or any picking us second.

That's right.  I find that rather odd that so many voters would pick Ohio that low.

I'm not that surprised that people picked Ohio low. Most people tend to overvalue the QB and undervalue the OL in predicting the results. I was actually quite surprised that as many of the publications as did picked Ohio first. To do that you have to dig deeper, find the veteran line and receivers on offense, the people returning from injuries, and the quality of depth in the defense, and not just look at a "returning starter" number.

The votes are almost verbatium from the final standings of last season. The overall vote total of 96 is second to Miami by only 1 vote. It looks good for us that the programs that we demolished the programs with the #1 and #3 vote totals last year with both teams bringing 1st year coaches into Peden Stadium midweek. Temple has a lot of graduation losses and I do not see very many taking that into account plus a horrible record against winning teams.

Still...Ohio has 8 first place votes, Miami only 4...but Miami edges us out by one vote for first place...some voters must have rated Ohio close to the basement...which makes no sense, even with our QB situation.

It's hard to fret too much about the preseason poll because a lot of the people voting are just flat out misinformed.  For example, John Wagner at the Toledo Blade (who I presume cast one of the votes) thinks NEW HAMPSHIRE is joining the MAC for football:

Nearly all of those who voted know a bit about their local teams and nearly nothing about the rest.  That's probably why for most years the preseason poll closely mirrors the previous year's final standings.

This.  Most on this board, frankly, are more qualified to write about the conference than many of the ink-stained wretches who do.  Sad but true.

Amen.  It's because we REALLY pay attention to the MAC while their prime focus is on the Big Tedozen.

New Hampshire???/ What are they smoking at the Blade???

There are "major" sports writers who call the MAC "The Middle America Conference" in their 2011 pre season issues. Others don't ever know what division the MAC is in.
It is getting much harder to ignore the unprofessional "journalism" that assaults us on a regular basis.

Hanging in there!

Nah, Temple will lose to Miami, too.  They're a walkover, cupcake, no-account school. Their better days are behind them.  Ours are in the future.  Go OHIO!

P.S.  Prepare for photographic response.

With the Temple program its not a talent issue. They will always have one of the best recruiting classes in the MAC and compete in the league on talent alone. The problem at TU constantly is attrition and team leadership. That culture will prevent them from building a dominant TCU type program. The situation there is very similar to what you find at CUSA schools.
