Heading into the second day of camp, we haven't touched on the RB stable much...

Obviously Donte's got the inside track but I for one can't wait to see what kind of noise Boykin and Blankenship make in camp.  Could Ohio have their own Killer B's in the making?

I think the coaches would love if Harden asserted himself as a senior and was a 1,000-yard rusher. He's got close to 1,000 yards in his career and I think everyone has been waiting for him to bust out. Injuries and last year's suspension have kept that from happening. It would take a ton of pressure off the QB if he can be a go-to back. I think the team has to get better productiion from the RB spot this year.

I do think Boykin and Blankenship could offer a nice changeup and if Harden doesn't prove himself, they might become more than that. I am hopeful that the running game will be good with one or more of these guys.

We've really got a nice mix of backs this year. In years past we've had several dudes with similar physical builds and styles. Now we've got the bruiser (Boykin), the bowling ball (Blankenship), the little speedy guy (Brown) and the all-around back (Harden). Not to mention Phil running out of a wildcat. As long as we can consistently move the ball through the air to keep the defense honest, we should have a great year on the ground.

So I guess we have D1 running backs.....just not enough for the naysayers.

True freshman Hammonds may surprise....sure he's little.....but small running backs can be successful.

Tim Albin - Asst. Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Running Backs

What have you seen and what do you expect from your corps of running backs?

"We're counting on Donte [Harden] to step up this season since he's been seeing action since his freshman season. We're looking for him to be an every-down type of back and stay in the ball game. He had a good summer and he's as strong as ever, if not stronger. Ryan Boykin had a good spring and he's up to second team and right now is getting the same amount of reps as Donte. Beau Blankenship has picked things up very well and he is our strongest player. He also has great down-hill speed.”

How are you utilizing all the different types of backs?

“Back before I joined the staff I saw Coach Solich at a clinic and he said that running backs come in all shapes and sizes. They’re all different but when you find a good one, you use him. Well, we’re using all our guys right now.”
