reports are Texas A&M will announce on Monday they are leaving for the SEC and shortly after so will Clemson, FSU and Mizziou...

This leaves the ACC, BIG 12 and as we all know the Big East in trouble...

Maybe O'shea will switch sports and coach Temple football and they will join the ACC...

And soon to follow, the SEC itself.  When the WAC went to 16 teams for football a few years ago, they found it way too unwieldy, with too few opportunities for cross-division matchups involving old rivals.  That's how the MWC was born.  If they stay with 8 conference games, that would mean each team would play any team in the other division just once every 8 years.  That'll cause a lot of disgruntlement.  If they go to 9 or 10 conference games, they have a lot fewer nonconference games, meaning fewer chances to show how much better they are than other conferences.  I can see them maybe going to 14: A&M (West Div.) and Mizzou (East).  That would expand the SEC's TV markets.  Clemson and FSU don't have much to offer the SEC, since they already have teams in SC and FL).  Besides, the SEC already has a buncy of the top ten party schools (did you notice that the top two on the list reside in towns named Athens); I'm not sure they want to add a third (FSU).

I am hoping it continues to trend to 12, 14, or 16 team conferences that expand to 9 (like the Big Ten is doing) or 10 game conference schedules.  This would get us closer to my dream of a "tournament of conference champions" type of end of season playoffs.

x 2, BC.

Everytime I see that MH55 has something to say about conference affiliations, the "Sanford & Son" theme starts playing in my head.

Then, I hear Redd Foxx's voice and his character Fred Sanford saying..."Elizabeth, I'm comin' to join ya!"

More power to ya, MH55. Let me be the first to wish you well in your future endeavors.

my guess is that at some point in the next 10 yrs, most MAC schools, if not the whole conference, will need to consider 1-AA/FCS.  there just won't be the resources to do anything else. no shame in it either.

The difference between the failure of the WAC and the guaranteed success of the SEC is that far too few give a rodent's posterior about WAC football.

Although I kinda think that there's a slight chance that if A&M doesn't have a dancing partner, they give Vanderbilt an open door to future MAC membership.

Like somebody else we know.

The number 29 just seems to go with Temps, as noted in this CNBC story:

Who’s Going To Temple?: Al Golden went to Miami after his great 8-4 season at Temple. Hopefully winning at Miami will help sell tickets, because that didn’t happen at Temple. Temple home games averaged 20,515 fans per game or 29.9% of capacity, the emptiest stadium on a percentage basis in the FBS.

the thing that's so dissapointing about  +imple trolls like turdburgler55 is just how bad they are at trolling. there's no wit, there's no insight, there's no stinging bit of truth, its all just so... blah.

Arguing that your school is ripe for moving up based soley on geography and demographics makes no since whatsoever. Its like we're supposed to forget that +imple was kicked out of the BE for not benefiting from these "advantages" in the first place. so, so lame.

Before you go anywhere, MH55, I think your beloved Owls will have to actually beat a MAC team with a winning record.  And be prepared for a major beat down in Athens this fall.  Even the Redchickens had their way with you last year, to the tune of 23-3.  Ohio, on the other hand, beat the preppies 34-13.    And, what was the head-to-head match-up last year?  Hmm . . . 31-23 in the hallowed confines of your vast stadium.  It won't be that close in Athens in 2011.  Frank has your number.

By the time October rolls around, are there ever any MAC teams that have winning records?

Sounds like a league that should be easy to win for a "big boy" such as yourself.

MH55 and the rest of the Hoot Owl Gang have yet to respond to the simple fact that Temple has yet to beat a MAC team with a winning record. How can they claim to be so "big time" and above the MAC if this is the case?

The easiest way to tell is to check Temple's schedule and check off the losses.  And you might want to tone down your rhetoric about how bad the MAC is until you are actually one of the better teams.

I'll post more later, but I firmly believe this conference shake up has us all standing on death's doorstep. Temple and Umass included.

I have gone as far as to approach President McDavis about the situation, as I believe it to be at DEFCON 1 at this moment. Texas A&M to the SEC (it will happen) will set the dominoes in motion that will lead to our demise in the incarnation in which we currently exist.

Right now is the time to fend for ourselves and batten down the hatches. These are dangerous times.

No more frivolous quabbles with other posters. This is serious.

You must have some inside information we don't. All I can see is that we've got Frank and will roll on any future D1 schedule. There are programs in the MAC that are less fortunate.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

These schedules can change at a moment's notice. Ask Nebraska or Colorado about their 2011 Big XII conference schedule's.
