Their feasibility committee has endorsed the idea:

I'd say they go Sunbelt if they go, and could probably compete pretty quickly there.

I think they'd WIN the Sun Belt pretty quickly.

I wonder if it will be worth it for App State...

I still believe that a major reshuffling is going to occur with D1 football in 5-10 years. Get a pad and paper ready as I roll these off Edgar Cayce style...

The top level of D1 is going consist only of the current so-called BCS conferences (or the superconferences that they are evolving into.) A couple other schools will be invited in. This will essentially be D1.

The new D1 will have a playoff system, most likely conference champs and at-large bids.

It gets real cloudy here, but I think...

This new D1 will offer some sort of payment deal for their players... excuse me... student athletes. Stipends is the correct term. This will be used as another wedge to keep out the Ohios, the Miami of Ohios, and the tired, the poor, the directionals yearning to breathe free. There's alot of clouds regarding how the paying players system works. Just accept it will happen. Smart, crafty people, even smarter than you, will get it done.

Still cloudy, but there's going to have to be some sort of arrangement with the Artists-formerly-known-as-D1 to placate them and get out of any legal entanglements. As mentioned by many before, the New D1 would still need to fill out their OOC schedules. The New D1 is going to have to shell out the moolah to the D1-AA, maybe a portion of whatever TV money they get (regular season and playoffs). Maybe higher paydays for the OOC games? Money talks... and the have-nots will take the cash.

The clouds part and I see... most of you guys. You are all sitting in Peden and watching Ohio take on Western Kentucky for the D1-AA championship. I can barely make it out, but Ohio has the ball and is in the pistol formation. I see the scoreboard, but can't tell who's the winning team. But the look in your eyes, it's screaming "Oh boy! Is this great!"

I don't endorse the furry lifestyle, but when the Bobkitten is involved things can change mighty quickly...

I could see C-USA taking Appy State....they're going to need more teams when half the conference leaves for the Big 12.

This would be a great add for the MAC.

The Sun Belt is a better football conference long term however.

Can somebody hit a pull up jumper for me?.....

Nah....not going to happen. App is not even remotely on the radar. To many other candidates out there for CUSA that are way better if that ever does happen. Besides, if Tex-A/M really leaves the likely candidates would be Air Force, BYU, TCU, and Louisville. A lot of teams to go through before CUSA gets affected. If we happen to lose UCF down the road they will just replace them with either FIU or FAU to keep the Florida connection. CUSA is very stable and from what we are hearing we are still in talks with a possible relationship with the MWC in hopes of staging a championship game between the two for a BCS bowl.

Big Twel could raid CUSA.  I could see Houston and Memphis being high on the Big Twel list.  Houston usually does respectable in football and b-ball, and Memphis is strong on b-ball.  Plus they're decent TV markets.  Even if they don't go, App St would be a good pickup for CUSA.  They have more in common geographically than the Sun Belt.  CUSA has ECU and Marshall within east driving distance (4-5 hours), but the closest Sun Belt schools -- MTSU and WKU -- are each about 100 miles farther.  Plus, and more importantly, App St's home attendance (24,000 avg last year) is on par with CUSA.

App. St. may turn out to be the Boise of the east. C-USA should take a good look at them before writing them off. If they go to the Sunbelt then that conference will get very interesting.

Hanging in there!

GO BOBCATS!

If you have ever been to an Appalachian State game, you know this is what college football should be about. Full stadium, excited fans, great atmosphere. Must say, I was jealous. Wish our students could be so supportive for our bobcats. I love it when a bunch of guys who just love to play ball go out on the field and give it 100 percent. We have it here in Wisconsin with UW - Whitewater. It's exciting!

Well, you are right our fans are pretty much not at all excited except a small but good crowd two years ago when we stomped the sh%# out of temples at home late in the season.
Would be nice to see an Ohio crowd show vague signs of football life.
