We have always prided ourselves on maintaining a civil, intellegent discourse on this board. For the most part we maintain that status with the exception of a couple of schools each year. Curiously enough, one of them is not Miami. The schools I am referring to are Marshall and Temple. while both schools have excellent posters, it is offset by the number of trash talkers from those schools. Trash talking is nothing more than trying to make one feel better by putting another down without any facts behind it. We have a good natured back and forth with Miami, whithout the smack so it can be done. My heart felt a lot better when I saw the Marshall poster saying essentially the same thing. So here is an appeal for the board administrators to delete any post that talks trash and if they can't accept those rules then ban them completely from the board. Lets keep this board something we can be proud of, above board, where only intellegent football conversation takes place.

I agree that talking trash is a waste of time, so I generally avoid it. But seriously? You didn't notice a single bit of childish trash-talking by our fans on this site this week? Hillbilly jokes, poverty jokes, dental hygiene jokes, calling Marshall "Turds" or any one of a number of other things... yeah, we hold ourselves to impeccable standards! Woe to anyone who befouls these intellectually pristine waters. Give me a break. If you're gonna dish it out (and this board does), you'd better be adult enough to take it. Luckily our team backed up our bluster this week.

I think raising a little dander is a good thing -- with perspective intact, of course.

Ohio and Marshall have more in common than they do differences.  Sitting in Peden next to a Marshall and Ohio fan who came to the game together, I was reminded of that. That usually makes for a more intense, almost brotherly squabble.

This game is good for both programs. I hope they can keep it a little on the strongly dislike side. It makes for sell-out crowds, ticky-tacky fights on the field that actual enhance the game and gives Ohio a game they can circle every year.

As long as it all stays within the boundaries of a rivalry and not an Auburn-Alabama "I'm going to poison the trees on your campus because of football" thing.

I have this admiration for Marshall: Notice how their crowd sounded, looked like when their team took the field? What they sounded like when they scored that touchdown? It looks like they are cheering as one. They are loud. They roar. Ohio fans should aspire to look like that (from a macro sense: please, Ohio fans, bathe...see? poking fun is fun!) and sound like that. We're not there yet. Hopefully, we will be soon.

There is something special about a stadium when it can get thousands upon thousands of people to actively care enough to sound like that. Almost like a baseball hitting a power hitter's bat hitting a home run compared to a Juan Pierre home run. If Ohio keeps winning, I trust it will soon sound like that.

I didn't speak clearly enough. This goes for our posters as well as other schools posters. I just see no need for this kind of crap from adults. I think we are better than that. If I want a steady does of trash I can simply listen to the Paul Finebaum show each day.

I hate this idea.  I also don't particularly like trash talk and rarely engage in it, except with Mr. Swank!

We censor too much on this board already.  I certainly don't want to encourage more censorship.  [Yes, I know I'm not using the technically correct definition of censorship here but rather the colloquial meaning.]

I have always opposed trash talking on this message board.  I posted a coupla messages to that effect during Marshall Week.  But I was told that I "don't get it."

I'll also have to agree that some Ohio posters on here are WAY too quick to descend to the level of Neanderthalic redmeat posts from opposing fans.  Too quick to respond in kind.

An couple of observations:
(1) No Ohio fan went to Herd Nation and spewed out the crap that SOME Marshall fans were spewing here. There were even comments over there about how they couldn't believe we wouldn't talk trash over there.
(2) The Posting Policy includes the following: "Opposing viewpoints are welcome, but non-OU-fans are expected to respect the fact that this is 'our house.'"
(3) Not one of the trash-talking Marshall fans have yet to come back and take their medicine.

I realize that to the extent Ohio fans "dropped to their level," I was right there in the front. But all-in-all, I don't think any Bobcat crossed the line. If you want respect, you show respect.

Also, Miami sucks.

I'll agree that as a moderator/mullah, I tolerated flaming from Marshall fans that probably should have been deleted early in the week.  That is, to comply with our message board rules.

Provided people aren't using bigoted or really personal attacks, I don't see a need to delete posts, but the trash talking is just so silly. I love coming here and learning about the program and our opponents in ways I can't anywhere else. I really don't get much out of declaring that, "(some other team/university) sucks." I'm just mystified that most of the people who complain about trolls and nastiness are the first ones to respond to it. It's not that hard to just ignore the inane posts. It was disheartening to see last week that many of the most active posts were variations on the theme of sucking.

Recovering Journalist: I do hope you saw my post that i do not condone it, regardless of the school. I'm just not sure if we as a civilized society have to wallow in the dirt. World Wars have started for less than what was on this board last week. First Marshall would talk trash then like they wanted us to do, we retorted. It just makes no sense to me.

Jeff: Maybe its just you and I who don't get it.

Civil or not. Ohio kicked Marshall's ass all over the field and totally embarressed them, It's been a longtime coming. I'm just hoping Marshall fans send me a private message so i can give them a good gravy recipe to go with their roasted crow they eatin.
