The schedule is loaded with games vs. AQs that should be competitive:

OU-Rutgers
Toledo-Syracuse
Temps-MD
WMU-Illinois
UConn-Buffalo

Plus Non-AQ Army at BSU

(No, I didn't mention EMU-Penn State)

HERE'S HOW THEY CAME OUT:

Rutgers 36--OU 28
Syracuse 33--Toledo 30 (OT) (Toledo actually won 30-29 in regulation, but the Big Least replay official affirmed Syracuse's last PAT even though it obviously missed.  This one should be chalked up for the MAC.)

Temps 38--MD 7 (Temps making its case for the ACC?)
Illinois 23--WMU 20 (WMU got to the Illinois 39 but couldn't get a play off before time expired.)
UConn 17--Buffalo 3 (It was a 10-3 game with under 6 mins to go.)

BSU 48--Army 21 (Still trying to figure out BSU.)

The MAC was really 3-3 in these games, but gets credit only for 2-4.

The MAC Magic Weekend of Sept. 20, 2003, saw three league teams score upsets of ranked teams. On that Saturday, Marshall surprised No. 6 Kansas State 27-20 in Manhattan; Toledo shocked No. 9 Pittsburgh 35-31 in the Glass Bowl; and Northern Illinois stunned No. 21 Alabama 19-16 in Tuscaloosa.

Also in 2003, on Aug. 28 Northern Illinois toppled No. 15 Maryland, 20-13 in overtime in DeKalb; and Bowling Green grabbed a 27-26 triumph at No. 16 Purdue on Sept. 6.

I remember that week, my senior year in Athens! Boy, those were the good old days.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Cats beat NIU the next week?

Also in 2003, College Gameday made its only appearance at a MAC stadium, for #12 Northern Illinois @ #23 Bowling Green.

Nope, they fell in OT.

I remember that.  I was only 13 or 14.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I remember that game! We kept a running tally in our apartment of how many consecutive plays we ran without a fumble. After every five, we would finish our drink. I don't think we had a fumble on the day, so it was a fun game, even in the loss.

Ahh, the Dark Days of the Brian Knorr Era....when it was the little things that kept the games worth watching. I do not miss them.

Hahaha, I remember watching that game from college park too. I'd forgotten about keeping track of consecutive plays without a fumble. I'm just glad we removed Option-Right/Fumble from our playbook [knocks on wood]

Toledo got screwed against Syracuse.  Someone needs to tell the officials when the goal post dissapears behind the ball, that means the kick was no good.  That blown XP (inexplicably upheld on review) would have given Toledo the win in Regulation...

Big Least refs doing a homer.  The replay ref will probably just be suspended for a game or two.  Too bad there's no way to appeal that.  Makes you wonder why the hell they have replay refs, anyway.
