Tettleton with a poor pass into double coverage in the endzone on one drive, a silly penalty when we are first and goal at the 5 with the game on the line and some horrible defense all day long by the defense. How do we f-ing give up a ninety TD on a WR screen after we took momentum in the game at that point. Defense again with lead in the fourth quarter give up an 18 play drive. Injuries aren't an acceptable excuse for losing today. We had several opportunties to win and did not get the job done.  We couldn't hold UB to a fg and we had to settle for two 4th quarter fg's. That was the ball game.

This is the first sensible post here about this game.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Oliver had an incredible game for Buffalo 200 yards of total offense. Buffalo didn't have any turnovers. The horse collar penalty really hurt because if that doesn't happen Buffalo kicks a field goal they probably miss on the far right hash. You've got to put the blame squarely on the defense. Tettleton made a mistake in the endzone but otherwise played a decent game.

Tettleton in the fourth was threw quite a bit on play action. The decision has to be made when to run and when to throw. There was at least a couple of times where he should have kept the ball and tried to net 6-8 yards instead of throwing into coverage. He should have ran the ball on 2nd and long in those situations reducing the amount of times the Cats were 3rd and long. Football is a field position game. What would have been perfect instead of punting on the 37/38 to run of those Paul Hershey fake punts.

Hershey has the green light, but it seemed that Buffalo kept the rush on all game, maybe because of the block last week.

Winning in the MAC is about 60% talent and preparation and about 40% catching a team at the right (or wrong) time.  I can't say that Buffalo is more talented or was better prepared.  The Cats started slow, but they've been a slow starting team this year; they've scored on the first drive of a game only once and have outscored only one opponent in the 1st quarter all year.  I'm looking at it that Buffalo just caught us at the wrong time.  And we may be hitting BSU at the wrong time for them.  It looks as though Harden isn't feeling any ill effects from his injury.  After the way Temps ripped apart BSU's run defense today (357 yds), I'm looking forward to seeing him, TT and maybe Bates run up and down the field next week.  In addition, all four BSU starters in the defensive secondary were banged up in the Okla game, so our passing game could explode as well.  I'm hoping that our D can work things out before next week.

TT has my trust n confidence.  Will he be perfect and see everything every time, no, but, he sure is  the right guy for Ohio right now.

Is Bates still on this ball club?  Didn't seem that way today.

We put ZERO pressure on their QB all day. Never came close to touching him.  Our secondary looked like Akron.

Offense was not a problem, 37 is plenty.  Would you have expected a big win if you knew Mr. Hastings would have to lead the team in tackles?

I didn't say offense was the problem today.  I just pointed out that Bates did not touch the ball. There's something wrong here.

Perfectly said. I was hoping that this season (Frank's 7'th) would be the year that we finally had the major advantage over the other programs. Looks like that is not the case. We still don't have the depth or the talent advantage that we should, given the relative stability of our program.

We lose two guys up front and then we have to rely on walk-ons and guys playing hurt to carry the load. Keller looks like he's playing around 50% right now. Very little speed to the ball and seems wicked tentative. Yet we keep blitzing the guy regardless of the fact that he's not going to get to the QB. And of course there is Benjamin, whose very presence on the field is a miracle. Jeff King? Not exactly 100%.

Until we get some guys back healthy, we are in deep, deep trouble.

I couldn't agree more...no disrespect to Tettleton because he is doing a great job at QB, but there was talk all during the spring and summer camps of using Bates as the amazing athlete he is. Someone must have misplaced that page of our playbook.   Does he even get a chance to return kicks/punts?? He's one of the best playmakers on the team and needs more touches.

What would Charles Barkley do?

Tettleton has played great all season and had a good overall game. Perhaps he didn't see the double coverage. One on one coverage I'm definately going to Brazil. He forced that one and it was a game changing play.

Team did show some charater coming back and taking the lead twice.  That atleast shows we aren't dead yet.  We face some good offenses and defense had trouble today.

Ah yes, my brother! Always there for a good rant with brevity. At least we have offense. This could have been alot worse.

Ranting doesn't do any good, but here's a key part of my post-game frustration: Why does Ohio always seem to get the oppositions "best" effort? Hearing about Kent getting throttled yesterday is a perfect example. When Kent plays us, they're world beaters. When Buffalo, who got manhanlded by a "down" Tennessee team, plays us, they're suddenly a world-class defense and heisman candidate running back.

I expect the Akron game to continue this phenomon. We'll go into that game feeling confident, and we'll come out with two black eyes and a stream of injuries.

Go figure.

The offense played great. The 110 looked good and really showed buffalo what a good marching band looks like. I just wish the defense had made the trip from athens (510 yards to buffalo?!? wtf).

On happier news, tail gating before the game I met Matt Weller's folks/family. Very nice people! Invited us to join them (had to pass), offered us food and drink, including fresh venison. Delicious. Real class acts. They also said that even though their son will graduate this year, he has a year of eligibility left and has every intention of letting the football team/athletic department pay for year 1 of his masters degree. So we got that going for us.

Teams are gonna be better prepared for us. What are they gonna do? Look at their schedule and be like "Ooh, but theres that Akron game.... Better start on a game plan 4 weeks in advance."

When I arrived at the tailgating area in Buffalo, I was blown away by the number of people and assumed the game was close to a sellout.  As it turned out, the stadium was WELL under half full (closer to one-quarter).  As I was sitting alone in a section in the upper deck, an usher befriended me and we discussed attendance.  He said that half of the tailgaters often never make it into the stadium because they're having too much fun outside.  It's all about the tailgating experience in Buffalo - not Bulls football.  I did notice a very large number of tailgaters were watching or listening to the Sabres hockey game.  I met Weller's family in New Mexico - very nice people.

Also, my streak is alive...once again, someone approached me near the ticket booth and gave me a free ticket. Happens at almost every MAC stadium.

Its not easy to recruit with 6 MAC schools in Ohio and located in the remote corner of the state. The program I believe likely maxes out at the level of Bill Hess or Frank Solich ball. Don't get me wrong Don Peden had amazing teams back in the 20's but that was a different era and mostly against DIII level competition. I think with some smart scheduling like we've had under Schaus the program is capable of hitting 8-10 wins regularly out of the MAC. Stability, Depth, Offensive schemes are the difference between Ohio and the lower level MAC programs not raw physical talent as the case with most BCS clubs. Frank has got the program loaded to the point where it can sustain a solid MAC program in the face of graduation losses and injuries. The program is probably even further along sustainability wise than it ever was under Hess who tended to have an occasional poor season.

Uncle Wes, in Peden's time there were no divisions in college football.  While Ohio played some teams that are now D-III, Peden also played and beat on a regular basis teams such as Illinois, Indiana, Cincinnati, Rutgers and Louisville -- just to name a few.
