According to Solich at halftime interview.

That is not good. At all.

Is Kent now the most hated opponent. I would think they have replaced Miami as a legit hated rival.

Add Xavier Hughes to the injury list.

Rooting for Akron is like cheering on the Taliban.

Bad feeling about Huynh, he was clearly upset on the sidelines in the 2nd half on crutches.

I've seen crazier things happen.

Keller and Solich gave slightly confliciting reports on Huynh's injury in the postgame press conference.

Keller made me feel a little better about it by saying:
“Hopefully it’s nothing too serious. Hopefully it’s not a very serious injury. I believe maybe we can get him back in a few weeks. I think maybe it was just he dinged up his knee a little bit. They originally thought ACL, but that’s not the case. That’s always a pretty good thing. I guess seeing the doctors, MRIs, stuff like that, only time will tell."

Solich, though, wasn't as optimistic:
“He’s going to be out for a while, maybe the season. MRIs and x-rays will determine that, but both he and Omar will be out for considerable time.”

The injury to Hughes was not really mentioned. Tettleton had a deep leg contussion. As for Dante Harden, Solich said he still could not accelerate fully on it so they wanted to keep him out and not risk further injury.

Also I wonder if there might be a defensive lineman losing his redshirt:
"It put us in a tough situation depth-wise up front on the defensive side. We don’t have many guys left. We’re banged up there very much so. In fact, we’re going to have to take a look at moving some people around to shore that up a little bit before the next game. "

My guess is that they move an OL to the D line, somebody nasty like Vince C.

Vince C played most of the second half while Herman was out... Not sure what was wrong with Erik...so not sure if that's possible...

I'd assume Crutcher would be called up if a red-shirt was to be burned... But I'd hate to see that... I really want Crutcher to be here for 5 years... Kid is going to be a beast...

Losing huynh is a really bad deal... In my opinion, he's our best pro-prospect at this point...

We have always been able to overcome these injury problems. That being said , it is tough to lose anyone on our defense. In some cases it can be a mixed blessing ,if a player gets an opportunity to break through and step -up
to the  challenge.
Does anyone know when we get an opinion from the Doc on these injuries?

I'm guessing doctors probably have looked at them already and we'll probably know what they said today.

I don't know what it is, but there's got to be some underlying reason for the excessive number of lower leg injuries our linemen suffer each year.  If I'm not mistaken, a vast majority of them occur on our own field, I might add.

Just do a quick survey of the injury lists of other schools; you'll see that our number of knee issues is significantly higher.  Yes, there's bad luck, but this has been going on for years.

Huynh got a cheap shot, chop block and is most likely done for the year.  Carnac says, "ACL and MCL tears".
Leftwich re-injured shoulder and is out for significant time.  Not sure if he could claim an injury red-shirt or not if he is done for the year.
Frank and staff are making difficult decisions this week about how to adjust to these injuries.  Looks like they may have to burn some red-shirts, but they certainly do not want to do it unless there is no other choice.  Not Good.

Isn't our playing surface nearing the end of its life?

Solich basically had no updated on those injuries at this point during his weekly press conference because the MRIs are today. Maybe we'll hear on the Frank Solich show tonight?

However, of note, Crutcher and Purdum will be giving up their redshirts to fill in on the defensive line.

Tettleton did not practice today but Solich thinks he'll be fine. He seemed optimistic about Harden playing this upcoming week.

God, I hope so. It looks like floral foam.

Field Turf has leaped forward like four generations since Peden's was put down.

Our field is probably near the end of the projected life.  I think our field is used a great deal for practice compared to other schools which probably use an actual practice field more, so this is another factor.

The turf at Ford Field was pretty new, but our Defensive Back whose name escapes me had his career ended by a cheap shot in the MAC Title Game (no penalty) and I doubt the age of the turf had anything to do with that.

My daughter plays a lot of field hockey on field turf and I have had to vacuum some of the rubber out of the car.

According to Arkley's Twitter, Purdum/Crutcher being prepped to play on DL. Had hoped to redshirt both.

Frank said Huynh will be out maybe 4 weeks. Leftwich might miss one game or less because nothing actually is broken.

Well...not as bad as some of us Danny Doomers thought. I commented on another thread that I watched Huynh walk past Victory Hill and he was on his own power and didn't have a toe drag limp.

Most of us wanted to see all 6 true freshman DL players keep their redshirt but  I didn't think that was gonna happen since we were thin on the DL anyway. Why sign 6 DL players if your not considering 1 or 2 to help out?  Crutcher will help stuff the middle and Purdum can go inside or out.  We had already used Davis so that leaves 3 who will probably keep their redshirt for sure....plus who's to say that we won't redshirt 1 of the 3 this year like we did with TT and others.

Crutch.....Release the Kraken......Purdum....The Madison County Mauler.......it's all good.

This. We were thin at DL at the start of the year, and these guys have the skills to play now. I'm a little surprised we haven't burned the shirts already to get them some live reps. It was just a matter of time before they were going to be needed this season.

If they burn the redshirts, they may eventually use them anyway, if they get hurt at some point in the future. Let's hope not, but sometimes it happens, as with Keller and Brazill.
