I only watched about the first half hour of last weeks game on replay (to cure my insomnia)... but I'd have to say I was completely appalled by the production quality of the broadcast. It was beyond laughable. There was no sound at all from the field, and, sorry Alan, the constant "Ohio U"s from both the pbp and color guys was like fingernails on a chalkboard. Was STO producing this? Was it Ball State's crew?

I had the same thoughts...awful. Not to mention their amazement that OhioU didn't get called for running into the punter...even though he rolled out for the rubgy style kick where the punter is "free game" for hits when they do that type of kick.

I think those were the regular STO guys.

My son watch the game on STO and had exactly the same reaction.  He said the constant "Ohio U." references were obnoxious and that he hoped that someone from the AD's office, if not the AD himself, would be giving them a little re-education before the Akron game.

Steve Mix does the same thing on the b-ball broadcasts.  At least with him, it may be an old habit that's hard to break.  The guys on the football broadcast seemed to be a lot younger, though.

Are there any OU bars in or around Cincinnati, that will have the game on for sure?

Edit
And on second thought does Cincy or NKY get STO?

I remember picking up a couple STO games through Time Warner cable in Cincinnati last year. I think it was broadcast on a local station that normally doesn't have sports. You wont find it in NKY, I know that for sure. As far as bars go, you'll probably just have to try your luck and ask a friendly bartender or waitress to see if it comes in.

Even though Mix may have that annoying habit, the STO basketball broadcasts were pretty good last season.

Hope that today's broadcast from Akron is an improvement over last week.  Didn't see it, but I'm just basing it on the comments on here.

Unless things have changed, STO doesn't produce all of their broadcasts and they use a feed provided by the home school.

Last week's game was from Peden, but it wasn't a OU crew -- that's for sure.

If STO sucks or the game sucks, you can always turn to NFL Network and watch Chris Garrett vs. Chip Cox in the CFL game of the week.

If it's the game only that is being blacked out, it's either because it's on Gameplan or maybe because of ESPN3.  If it's always blacked out, you need to get the DTV sports pack package that includes Fox sports channels from around the country, MSG, YES, Altitude and others.

As for general comments about STO's coverage, I thought it was really second-rate today.  Besides the continual "Ohio U" references, their cameras often bit on play-action fakes, leaving us guessing as to what was going on; for some reason the only replays they had on the big fumble play that set up Akron's first TD were from end zone cameras, which were useless to determine whether it was a pass or a fumble; I'm not sure why they brought along the sideline reporter, who disappeared between the pregame and the halftime interview with Ianello and showed up only once in the second half to discuss Marcellis Williamson; and apparently no one kept the announcers updated on the other MAC scores, given the complete astonishment they showed at the Temps-BGSUCKS score.
