Big win for NIU as 8 point underdogs on the road. NIU can pretty much coast to a MAC West title with BG on the road and EMU then Ball State at home. I think they have too much offense for those teams to deal with. Toledo is working uphill trying to keep pace for a bowl game. WMU will be a test next week in the Glass Bowl and then CMU and Ball State on the road.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl
2015 34-3 drubbing of Miami @ Peden front of 25,086

So now we root for Akron tonight (sorry Athena). And NIU against BG on Tuesday. Would like for the Cats to have some breathing room.

Miami dropping a game to Akron doesn't really give us any breathing room. They'll only have 3 losses and if they win against us take the East via tie breakers. At this juncture the Cats have to beat Miami and BG to win the East. We don't need to necessarily win out the remaining games but its not like we can wrap the MAC title up in BG before playing Miami yet anyway.

Miami still has to play Temple and WMU. So a loss to Akron would be quite helpful to Ohio.

Strangely a loss to CMU won't impact Ohio's chances, if I read that correctly. Ohio will have to beat BG and Miami with or without a win at CMU.

God this Kron team is maddening to watch. You see glimpses of good play, but as soon as you think they're about to get it together, it's all "whoopsie daisy sorry about that you're wrong we still suck haha on you."

Or maybe it's just Fiami making me think Kron has potential.

Maybe the crowd noise bothers them.

That is true. What I'm hoping for is that BG loses to NIU and Miami to WMU and Temple. That would give each 4 losses. So Ohio could beat CMU and either BG or Miami and win the East. It will be interesting to see if Temple keeps playing or if they quit like last year.

Ohio definitely is a good spot. It would be nice to have had a win in one of those two losses, either Ball State, or Buffalo. Then the cushion would be huge. As it stands, there is a fair chance the Bobcats could clinch the division even before the Miami game like Ted said. And it could be possible to lose to either CMU or BG and still win by beating Miami (as long as BG drops another game in the scenario of losing to the Falcons). However, the best thing is that it's all in Ohio's hands. No need to worry about what anyone else does.

It strikes me that Miami seems to be putting things together. Me thinks that Tuesday night in a few weeks might be fairly important.

By the way, in the possibility that there is a three-way tie between Ohio, Temple and Miami, which would mean Temple beating Miami and Miami beating Ohio, I think the Bobcats would likely win the tiebreaker. With the head-to-head all being 1-1, it would go to results vs. in-division teams by rank. With BG likley the first team in the tiebreaker, and both Miami and Temple having lost to the Falcons, Ohio would win in that case.

Agreed.  The Redchickens seem to be gathering steam toward the end of the season, unlike Temple that appears to be doing a swan dive.

Lets not get ahead of ourself, first Ohio has to take care of business against Central Michigan and Bowling Green. Ohio seems to play to the level of their competition, plus Central Michigan provided Northern's only MAC loss this year.

Yeah, certainly none of the games remaining will be easy and I certainly hope the players aren't even thinking about these scenarios. But as fans, I think we can consider all the possibilities.

We saw the same things last year. As soon as we took down Temple, they gave up and let an inferior Fiami team get by them. And we all know how that played out for us.... Luckily, this year we close out the season with Fiami.

Regardless of whether the MAC East is on the line, it's going to be Senior Day against the Redchickens. Ain't no way the boys coast in that one.

I love OUr guys too but are we really having conjecture about other teams' losses and anything about our results beyond the next game.

Memory of bowl games, MAC title games and last year's kents game must be short.

The only thing that matters is getting better and the upcoming contest against CMU.  This speculation of scenarios and anything beyond concentration on our next game makes me shudder.

Wednesday night glittered.  But we've had three other games in which we were less than optimal.  We cannot for one second coast.

Yes, we are conjecturing exactly because of last year. I don't want a replay of last year where Ohio beats the top contenders in the East but doesn't win the East. Had Temple beat Miami last year, Ohio would have gone to the MAC Championship Game instead of Miami. NIU craps their pants and all of a sudden Miami picks up a MAC Championship.

Things should become much more clear after a couple key games next Tuesday and Wednesday:
1. Tuesday - NIU at BG - NIU should beat BG, after which NIU should have no trouble winning out. BG has been up and down, so you never know, and the game is at BG. If BG loses, and Ohio beats CMU, then BG is done, barring a bizarre finish where everyone has 4 losses.

2. Wednesday - Miami at Temple  - I think that with Coyer, Temple wins this one by a couple TDs. Since Temple should also beat Kent, then if Ohio beats CMU and BG, Ohio wraps up the East before the Miami game. With a Miami win, or with an Ohio loss to either BG or CMU, Ohio must beat Miami to win the East.

As per usual, L.C. sizes it up correctly and succinctly.  Win the next three games and all these scenarios are purely academic.  I think the team understands this, and we are not going to see a let down like we did against the "B brothers" (Ball and Beefs) earlier in the season.
