Not sure how many Ohio's sold but overall sales are up over 28,000 according to the Idaho Press-Tribune.  I'm going to hazard a guess that the majority of those will be wearing blue though.  Great news for the Bowl but OUr boys are going to have to circle the wagons!

Heard from a usually reliable source today who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak on the matter that we've sold less than 100.

Great report!  I doubt the bowl ever expects much from the MAC in terms of travel.  Only two weeks notice and not an easy destination.  Looks like they are expecting a larger crowd in the stadium than our game in Mobile vs. Southern Miss.  

Curious Alan, is your valuable secret source the bar tender at Casa?

The post was more of a spoof on the latest trend in reporting that I've noticed where those exact same words are used all the time than anything.

I would actually be pleasantly surprised with around 100 tickets sold for this game given the short notice and travel distance & expense.  I will say that I am hearing from several people that have made the trip that Boise is a great host city with a lot to offer.  I think a lot of people just assume it sucks because they know nothing about the state of Idaho.

Also, while we may not have sold many tickets the athletic department is in a better financial position going to this bowl game than it would have been going to Detroit or Mobile.  The cash payout is significantly higher than for those bowls.  Enough so that the increase in ticket sales to those locations would come nowhere near covering the difference.

AS I rember we sold about 200 tickets(something like 186 sticks in my mind) to New Orleans last year so 100 sounds about right.  I'll say what I said last year, until we travel better, we can't be taken too seriously by the general public, 7 or 8 TV games or not, and we have a pretty tame fan base.

I'd be interested to know how many tickets we would have sold had we held on to win the MAC Championship and been invited to Mobile.
  • More at stake
  • Warmer location
  • Easier and less expensive trip
  • More planning time
  • Not during holidays
  • More upbeat about the football team
I know OUr attendance was disapointing last time we played in Mobile, but I'd be curious how much of a bump we would get as champions as opposed to runners up.

I'm not going by sales numbers, I'm going by butts in seats.  I was there and the lack of Bobcat green was an embarassment considering it was OUr first bowl game in 38 years.

I was there, too, but I must have had lower expectations because I thought the Ohio crowd was pretty respectable.

I was also there.  All I'm saying is that the reported number of tickets sold via the Ohio ticket office was half -- at best -- the number Ohio fans actually present in the stadium.  Yes, we were greatly outnumbered by USM fans, but I would agree with Jeff that I thought we had a pretty good turnout.

I'm not saying you're wrong Chick, but if my memory serves, I thought they had to halt entry into the Bobcat bash at 200. I would be surprised if it was <200. (and I'm sure we could find out officially) Regardless, your comment holds that the fan base is still in a growing stage. Long ways to go.

We only sold 186 tickets or so last year? I thought we had like 4-6 buses of students with their tickets going toward that number and the school picking up the costs of the buses. Certainly seemed like a decent number of Bobcats on Bourbon St.

But we have a LOOONNNNGGGGG way to go. Bowl games west don't help though.

I don't see why there is such a big deal made out of ticket sales.  If the bowl payout in Idaho is sufficient to end up breaking even or coming out slightly ahead, it doesn't matter how many we sell.  I was at a luncheon today with about 20 guys that are big donors and season ticket holders at WVU.  Only a handful are going to the Orange Bowl.  WVU has sold 5800 tickets to a BCS game in Miami.  Clemson has sold about the same.  You could make an argument that it is the worst of the 5 big bowls, but to those schools it's still a big deal.  It's not just the lower tier games that are not selling large amounts.
