I invite all to review the final stats.  There is a link available from the Ohio Football page. Some things I noticed; it seems NIU is not considered a conference loss, Ohio nicely over opponent in nearly all toatals, only 9 punts returned all season.  This should be required reading for critics of the staff.   http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-footbl/ohio-m-footbl-body.html

Notice one stat missing:  Number of times we either took a penalty or had to use a TO because coaching staff couldn't get the play to the QB in time.  The staff does deserve criticism for this issue, which was embarrassing in Boise.

Was it the coach not getting the play in, or was it the QB not reading the defense quickly enough and calling the audible?

What were there? Zero turnovers? I'll take the "better safe than sorry" timeouts, thankyouverymuch.

Be a critic if you like.  One thing we know is this staff does work hard on their weaknesses.  I expect to see this get smoother.  However, we do need to expect defensive coordinators to do what they can to cause problems and they will mess with whatever offense we run.  The idea of our offense is to create matchup problems and to make them look bad more than they make us.  So far so good, most effective offense in Ohio history, go ahead, be a critic.

You can criticize all you want but in the first year of running a difficult system that sometimes had its kinks it worked well.  What isn't as obvious is when a play is changed when the defense is recognized and the result is a first down or a play for large gain.  It was obvious that Utah St. was running a defense that they had not run previously even the announcers noted that.  We took some time to figure out what they were doing and what to run.

That's fair.  I'm sure the staff will work on this.  It was the first year in a new system.  Overall I would bet Ohio had fewer before-the-snap penalties this season than in previous years.  OL experience and TT's game management were advantages.

Getting the snap off before the play clock expires is a pretty simple exercise.  Like on the first offensive set of the 2nd half.  And we were sooooo reacting to USU for the first 1 1/2 quarters.  When we finally decided to get up to the line quickly and get the snap off pretty much right away, we started moving.  Until that point the lack of confidence and fire that characterized the 2nd half of the NIU game was hampering us.  When we took it to them with confidence, we rolled.  14 games into the year, we should have known who we were and what worked for us earlier in the game.

I think Saturday woulda been a lot less stressful if we'd've gone hard quick at USU right away and if we'd've blitzed them in some obvious situations (third and longs).

Monroe, granted call a play, line up, snap ball, run play, easy.  Old school, run the ball, stop the run, win the game.  You know that was Utah State's game that they actually executed very well, except they lost, outcoached by Burrow in the red zone and Albin at the finish.  Now days it is cat and mouse up until the ball is snapped and given the season Ohio just finished, Albin was the cat most of the time.  Monroe, who we are changes about the time tendancies might be established.  Ohio's offense is balanced with threats to take advantage where favorable matchups can be created.  In the bowl the offense started in a hole, played catchup the whole game and finished ahead at the end.  Credit to Utah State, they are better than their record.  Credit to Ohio, who beat a fine team and yes is still not where these coaches will take them.  This journey is not over, hang on.

I totally agree that the future is very bright.  The way that this year ended, though, did not give us top 25 shine.  I think that a MAC title and more decisive bowl win definitely would've gotten us votes.

I do think that's what we're capable of.  It disappoints and irks me when, having that potential, we don't play like it.

Look at the way our offense played against temples and bg and redhawk.  Not much hesitation or leg-lifting and looking toward the sideline and hesitation.  For the most part, we were confident in what we were doing and we attacked.  We didn't stumble around trying to react to the defense.

It just seemed so obvious in the last half against NIU and most of the first half vs. USU that we did not have that flair.

I wonder what our offensive output was (# of plays run, yards, running yards, passing yards, points, first downs, etc) in the last 2 quarters of NIU and the first two of USU compared to the rest of the season or the four or five games before the title game.

I'm not griping just to complain.  I'm griping because I think that we are so much better on offense than we showed.

Monroe, this week I saw the Chiefs beat the Packers. It is too easy to point fingers at the Packer coaches and say they are better than that.  It is also not productive.  Though I am sure there are many fans, dreams crushed, ready to second guess every Packer failure. You are so smart, you can see when something does not work. You have a subjective opinion that everything should work, and get embarrased when it does not.  Sorry Monroe, in football, the Chiefs can beat the Packers, Detroit will win last second, did you see the snap sail by Drew Brees.  I wish you would spend some time "helping" their coaches with their so obvious problems.  They are good coaches and will move on.  Really the Packer and Saint coaches could use your 20/20 hindsight help.

Bcat2--I think that you miss my point.  I have no problem with us losing if we play well and smart.  I think that we did not play so smart for too much of the last 6 quarters.  The physical stuff on the field seems a lot less able to be controlled than the play calling and strategy.  I did not like a lot of the strategy over the last 6 quarters.

Let's both watch the replay and compare notes afterward.

I too am blinded to the many faults of our current coaching staff when I should be thinking about what might have been.  I guess I just get wrapped up in this whole "best season ever in the history of Bobcat football" thing.  Thanks for keeping me down to earth on this matter.
