For Penn  State. Please.

I have actually enjoyed Lee Corso over the years but he just said a guy like Frank Solich would be a good choice because he has won at Nebraska and Oregon. Here's a guy that coached at NIU for one year. Oregon? For reals Corso Clown? Another grey beard living in the past much like Knight, Phelps, Raftery, etc. Turn the page.

I love College Gameday but come on, man!

If you expect him to get Solich's record right, you should reciprocate. He did coach at NIU for only one year, but it certainly wasn't his only year as a head coach. He was 28-11-3 in four years at Louisville, and 41-68-2 in ten years at Indiana.

I do think he's be a fine coach at Penn State, but I doubt they would hire him,  and I'm not sure he would want the job. He's followed one legend - isn't that enough for anyone?

I wouldn't call Knorr a legend.

I wasn't even referencing Corso's record anywhere. My point was he coached at NIU and should know where OHIO is located and it's not Oregon.

Really? How many coaches have had their names turned into verbs?

OK, Diamond Cat, I misunderstood your point. Sorry.

All good, LC. I actually feel sorry for Corso because I have enjoyed him over the years including his picks and "not so fast my friend" line. It's obvious he has had some health issues and I wish him well. Hate to see him go off on the Beno Cook path.

Lee Corso had a stroke in 2009.  My father had a stroke years ago and was not able to speak for months.

I admire Corso and credit ESPN for giving him the chance to continue working and provide motivation for those who have suffered a stroke or had other issues not to give up.

Mike Goffried also suffered a stroke that was more severe and ESPN stuck with him as well.  Gotfried is a class act.

I think Knorr is legendary.  He's the one most often cited when we discuss the lousy years of OU football.

Frankly (pun intended), I agree that Coach Solich would be a great hire for PSU.  He has the temperment and offers the type of stability that would go well there.  But he'd be nuts to take it.  This thing is still playing out at PSU and there have been stories lately that the media jumped the gun on criticizing Joe Pa's handling of the situation.  This whole thing will be swirling around the PSU athletics program for at least another year, so the next coach will be walking into a firestorm.  He won't be able to please half or more of the PSU community no matter what he does for the next year or two.  It's a lousy situation, and I doubt that Coach would want to throw himself into that.

Lee Corso may be wrong about a lot of things (like the rest of us) but he is unquestionably a great human being.  In his professional company as a coach and an ESPN talking head that is something he can be proud of.

Hmm . . . when did Knorr supplant the legendary Old Freak Nasty and PaPaL in the lousy football department?  I haven't done a content analysis of recent references to bad football but if Knorr is ahead of those two it's an example of unwarranted presentism!

Yeah, Knorr did have two teams that at least showed promise, and he actually beat a BCS team. He also recruited some pretty good talent. He left the program in decent shape and still graduated players. Lichty graduated players, but that was about it.

You say this, but then love Carbone and won't approve of any replacement coach other than the ones he groomed? Ooook.

No way Frank leaves Ohio. He's well into his 60's and probably doesn't want to pick up the pieces of a program that will be under a dark cloud for the next few years.

Future Plans

Despite his program’s rise in national prominence, Solich says his work at Ohio is not done. He would not comment on whether he had been contacted about other coaching jobs around the country, but he said he is devoted to his current position.

“There’s no reason for anybody to be talking about (job openings at other schools),” Solich said. “I think I’ve made it clear that I am clearly happy here at Ohio in the way things are going. We’ve got more work to get done here at Ohio. That’s been my intent from the moment I stepped on this campus.”
