I cancelled my Dispatch subscription due to their overblown Buckeye coverage and abysmal Bobcat articles. Looking on their website today, I don't see any coverage of our bowl victory from last night. Granted I haven't picked up the print edition yet. However, I tend to recall many instances where the Dispatch more than adequately covers our losses.

Does anyone else notice this? Or am I missing where they did in fact cover a thrilling bowl win?

Page 5. Wire story.

Gave us a skybox on the front page... shame on me for not opening it before purchasing.

I hate this city.

FWIW, the Dispatch did have an article on C5 today about the game. Not a Znidar article, likely one they pulled from AP, that's probably in most newspapers around the country.

And to be fair, there is a mention of it on the top of the front page of the paper as well. I'd love to have more Ohio coverage, but I'm tired of beating that dead horse.

And now, with Bobcat Showcase, etc, there is much more coverage about Bobcat sports. You just aren't going to find much in the papers.

Yet another aspect of the over rated establishment from yesteryear. I spent 2 years in that town and really couldn't wait to get out because of the daily reminder I was forced to hear every day about those chumps. As I have said many times....every young kid in the state gets forced fed to believe in Cow U because that is all they read in the local papers day in and day out. Growing up in Z-Ville it was the same crap. Even with an OHIO Branch in the damn town WHIZ (local radio and NBC Station) sniffs Luckeye jock 24/7. I'll give The Dipsack a break. It's Columbus so they have some connection.

Can't blame them for not sending a reporter out to cover the game, it's not a cheap trip.

Cant blame them either; but perhaps they could invest in a media guide or read the game notes and they would notice it is Ohio not Ohio U.

Never understood this "obsession" with how or IF the Dispatch covers us. It screams of "Little Man" syndrome to me. We are not located in Columbus, and we are one of what 8 or 9 other D1 schools in Ohio? That we get any amount of coverage from the Dispatch is probably a gift and from little bit of attention I pay to the Dispatch, we probably get more than all the other MAC Ohio schools combined.

Are you living anywhere near the state of Ohio?  If so, you know that the Dispatch is not a Columbus paper, it is THE state paper sold in every tiny town in the state.  So yes, it is annoying that kids are fed OSU sports their whole life when there are 14 state schools to consider.  I will not buy that paper for their overall disdain of the oldest school in the Northwest Territory (that's an area from southern Ohio to Wisconsin or so).  My daughter lines her rabbit cage with the neighbor's CD copy, that or the ANews.

Thanks for clarification on how the coverage turned out in the print edition. I haven't had a chance to see a hard copy today. However, I did see the coverage of our MAC championship game loss. Front page on the sports section and bold headline.

And for winning the bowl game, we get page 5 of the section and just an AP article? What were they writing about in the first four pages? There must have been a lot of analysis with O$U beating an unranked Gamecocks basketball team.

I have no problem how they cover us or if they cover us, as long as they keep it consistent.  If they make a very large spread cover pic for the story on our loss in the MACC then I want the same for our very first bowl win instead of a tiny blurb.  The same goes for how they cover the other schools in their articles and O$U, if they give O$U an article all to itself then make no mention of it when talking about the other schools' games unless they happen to be playing in those same games (hopefully I made sense in that last bit)

The opposing team sucks!

That is not the case based on my experience. It's not even the largest-circulating paper in the state.

I have been asked many times to subscribe to the dispatch. THEY CAN FORGET IT. I tell them that until they begin covering the MAC, I will never subscribe and only buy one on occasion for the ads and coupons. I have written to them encouraging them to cover the six major univesities of the MAC in the state of Ohio. Many of our players as well as players from the other MAC schools come from central Ohio and should be recognized. Thank you Grove City! A show on WTVN did give a lot of congrats to our CATS this morning.
It was not their usual sports show which often includes earl the pearl bruce (old 9-3).
GO BOBCATS. GREAT YEAR! Was at 8 games this year - hope to be at 9 next year.

My point exactly.

If you front page sports section the bold face super enlarged DEVASTATING LOSS for our MAC championship game then why not MIRACLE FINISH on todays front page.

Just leave us out of the friggin paper.

Chicago Tribune quotes TT as saying that the final six was a designed run.

Didn't I hear him say in the interview right after the game that the play was designed as a pass?

To show you how ()*&%$( up their website is, if you want the latest college sports news of ANY kind, don't click the "other college sports" choice in the sports menu -- that'll get you crap that's three months old.  Instead, click on "Today's Top Sports Stories" and scroll through it.  An alternative is to click the "Ohio $tate $ports" option, but then you get all that O$U crap.

All things considered, it's not a very good newspaper and they are becoming increasingly obsolete in the digital age. But they are the only major printed news outlet in Central Ohio for the time being, and they continue to alienate those who want something more than O$U cheerleading. Not a recipe for a secure future for them in my view.

Speaking of news coverage, Ohio was mentioned in this article in the Lincoln Journal Star on former Ohio Linebacker Coach, Ross Els.

Speaking of newspaper coverage, more relevant to me is that the Mess didn't send Arkley to Boise, either.  Yes, it is an expensive trip, and yes, budgets are tight, but seriously?

I've yet to see a Dispatch up here in NEO.  A quick look at Wikipedia shows that the Dispatch is 3rd in the state behind the Plain Dealer and the Enquirer.  In fact, the Plain Dealer's weekday circulation almost beats out the Dispatch's Sunday circulation.

I've seen crazier things happen.

I'm not defending the Dispatch, but the newshole for a Friday night game when nothing else was going on in the world of sports and a newshole following a full Saturday are drastically different -- especially when the bowl game was played at 5:30 p.m. If the game was a primtime game, I'm guessing it gets pushed up in the pecking order.

A newspaper is concerned that when you get that story, the game has been over for more than 12 hours. (I think newspapers are far too concerned with this, personally. A newspaper reader is reading a newspaper to get 'old' news along with some perspective rather than a half-dash rote retelling).

But I agree with the plea for consistency. Don't suddenly make an Ohio postseason game a major event and then bury the bowl game that far deep. I think even a stubby two-column story on the bottom right corner would've sufficed for a Sunday edition.

And The Messenger's coverage didn't get bashed on here until people couldn't read it for free anymore. It's why I love working for newspapers that are free -- it stifles a whole lot of yapping. Hardly anyone can complain about something for which they didn't pay.

Well, people still find ways, but it's much easier to slam the phone down self-righteously in such cases.
