Thought I would share this story real quick.

My uncle is married to a woman whom he met in London. They have been married a short time and I added her on facebook recently. This morning I was checking facebook and noticed she posted some videos of the 110 and was just amazed at how great they were. She didn't realize that I was a season ticket holder at Ohio and now is making me swear that next time she is in the USA, that I will take her and my uncle to a game. She has never even been to a football game and probably doesn't even know how the game is played, but she is ready to come to Athens.

I just thought this was kind of neat.

Dollar for dollar, the 110 is maybe the best investment OU has. They're great ambassadors for the university.

The AdMins in Admissions use sophisticated modeling to determine likely applicants, acceptances and the yield for any particular year. It would be interesting to learn if the Ohio AdMins have seen an increase in apps over what they were projecting for this year. Approaching 5.9 million Youtube hits on just a single 110 video and where numerous comments have appeared to be from HS students would give some anecdotal evidence that numbers may be up. (some of the student comments might be from 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th graders who are still at least a year off from applying.)

So much talk about budgets. It would be fantastic if the recent publicity of the Party Rock video led to an increase in out-of-state applicants. A boost in that category brings that huge windfall for revenues. So whether a kid wants to tryout for the 110 or simply will end their band career after HS graduation and wants to go to college where the other kids think band is cool too. High Schoolers may pick schools for what appears to be strange reasons and they might not disclose to anyone immediately for their reasoning. I met a very successful Boston area born and raised businessman who in chitchat I found he had attended Ohio Wesleyan. I asked him how he came to go there. He said his counselor told him he wasn't cut out for the Ivy's or upper crust NE liberal arts schools. The counselor told him that Ohio had some really good ones that might give him the opportunity to get away and still get a great education. The counselor gave him three names where to start his research; OW, ONU and Denison University. In the end, story narrator said he never considered any other than the this three and after looking over all the bulletins and never setting foot on any of the three campuses, simply based his choice on which school had the highest women to men ratio!

Hope that is true 69. A little searching and find Ohio has about 9% out-of-state where our friends in Oxford have closer to 35%. Would be nice to boost it here in Athens to get the double tuition rates and take a little pressure off the budget.

According to my friends who are International students, it costs them about 55-60k to go here. I'm sure that includes travel and such, but I think if there is to be an emphasis on recruiting, OU needs to make more international partnerships. It brings Athens a lot of $$$, and they also tend to be excellent students.

You know what Frank Solich likes most about coaching in the MAC? While he gets older, his coaching competition stays the same age, man.

I'd heard things were up from somebody connected, but no detail as far as raw figures/

Off the 110 topic for a moment. In the mid 70's enrollment had come down to the 13,000 area and now the city has about 11,000 more undergrads and the top party school rating. Yet, do these students today mostly party in private? Consider just at the south end of Court Street and along Union Avenue in 1975. Take the current Jackie O's/Graduate and the Union, Skippers/Town House and add BW's and that is what you currently have. Minus BW's add the Deck (in Bromley or the College Inn) The Long Branch Saloon, The Lantern and Swankey's on S. Court and the Frontier Room in old Baker and the old up town scene runs circles around today's (especially the south end) with many less potential customers (two cinemas too). Of course 3.2 may have had lots to do with that picture.

So the intellectuals claim that the 110 and recent athletic successes have nothing to do with this and continue to push for the eradication of said programs.
