With WVU "dumping" Florida State, why don't we upgrade with a home-and-home with the Seminoles which, of course, would involve doing something with the other half of the New Mexico State home and home?

Just thinking, if not so clearly. Penn State, Florida State and Marshall to open the season: Now there's a test!

No, they wouldn't. But they might enjoy a game in Cleveland. You never know if you don't ask.

FSU is losing a home game so they'll want somebody to play in Tallahassee. I'm not sure Ohio would give up a home game against NMSU for it.

Most Memorable Bobcat Events Attended
2010 97-83 win over Georgetown in NCAA 1st round
2012 45-13 victory over ULM in the Independence Bowl

I think it's unrealistic to expect a straight-up home and home from them.  Might have to chip in a road b-ball game.  And the "home" game would likely have to be in Cleveland or Cincy.  Doesn't hurt to ask.

So you are wanting a "home" game in Cleveland or Cincinnati?  Doesn't quite seem like a home game.  Still don't see FSU doing that since they do not dip into recruiting Ohio that much.

When's the last time Florida State ventured north of the Ohio river in a non-conference setting? Against Notre Dame in the Charlie Ward days?

*Edit: 2003 at Notre Dame.

I dare say ND, Michigan or OSU would be the only programs they'd be willing to come to the Great Lakes states to play.

Not wanting,  Just being realistic.  I doubt that FSU would play in anything smaller than a 35,000 seat stadium.  Wake has the smallest in the ACC at 31,000; Duke has 33,000; no one else has less than 44,000.

The point isn't that FSU is available, it's that WVU is planning on the Big 12 in 2012, which means every Big East team soon will have to fill a slot as well.

Didn't you get the memo? Temple is taking care of all those Big East openings...

It must be the M&^%$ (OHIO) inferiority complex that makes them write SIU (Carbondale).  Is there another SIU that fields athletic teams?   I hate it when I get my Salukis confused.

Ted got it. SIU-E is a recent D-I addition.

I feel for Miami, though. They got screwed (by Mizzou?) pretty bad.

Is Edwardsville going to FCS or FBS?

I know that they probably wouldn't want to play a MAC school in their home stadium, or probably not even in a neutral site that wasn't in the south, but if you ask and they reject, you're not out anything.

Edit:  Since you said new to D1, I'll assume that's FCS?

They got screwed pretty bad but you don't really feel bad for the fellas from Oxford do ya?

Where are all the guys/gals on here saying how easy it is to schedule named competition in Athens to give the season ticket holders greater value?  Take a look at  Miami and find them getting jipped several times in recent years when scheduling "bigger time" opponents for the return game.

Who is it again the AD should schedule instead of Garnder-Webb that will not stiff us on the return game either for money or because of conference switch/scheduling conflict and who is that opponent that will GUARANTEE big money doesn't flow out of the Ohio coffers?

I just don't see our fans paying to go to Cincinnati or Cleveland for a game.  I wish they would, just not confident they will travel and pay the money that will be charged.

If our fans won't show for a bigname opponent, then our upside is limited.  Also, in Cle or Cinci, it's not just our fans, of course; many people in those towns which may or may not have professional teams would show for a good college match-up even if not particularly a fan of either school.

Haven't seen it in Detroit yet for title game.  Place is rather empty and only $20 a ticket.  I want us to play big name teams, just haven't built the fan base yet to support.  Each year with Solich, we are getting closer.

You keep NMSU and get a win that puts us a step closer to another bowl season.  We are playing it right in football. Football is a little different than basketball. Football you get as many wins as you can and take that bowl that is on national TV in December. Frank is doing  exactly what programs like Southern Miss and Boise State did. You keep winning and going to bowl.  That helps recruiting and attendance which grows the program long term. What Miami is doing isn't working.
