In the winter the team never gets a break - they are always busy. And no, I'm not talking about Court street, I'm thinking winter conditioning and lifting.

My title line seems sure to bring Monroe into the discussion, but my question is predicated on the defensive line. It's been said when it comes to recruiting defensive tackles that there only a few really good prospects every year for defensive tackle, and everyone knows who they are. Well, Ohio has done pretty well in that area lately with Crutcher and Clark, but in the past they have also done very well with DE's who have bulked up over the winter and moved inside. One example was Ernie Hodge. Ernie actually played LB in high school, and came to Ohio at 245, but with reported 4.64 speed. After playing as a Freshman at DE, and a year off, he finished his career at 287 at DT. Another example was Neal Huynh. Recruited at 230, he was up to 303 last year, and was a true force inside prior to his injury.

As I glance at Ted's chart, it strikes me that there are 12 players listed at DE, and only 6 at DT. I find myself wondering if one or more of those guys is, even as we write, working to bulk up and get stronger to play inside.

Good question, L.C.  And, sorry for the slight hijacking, but I think that in the next couple of years we are going to see some rather upgraded play at linebacker....which, when combined with the 'better' at d-line, should be fun.

Regarding Hodge, I think he was better at a lighter weight. His freshman year he was a force at DE but when he bulked up and moved inside, he became less of an impact player. At least, that was my impression.
