Temple Board and the Big East.

Key Quote: If Temple is invited to join the Big East and does accept the invitation, it will need to extricate itself from the MAC and A-10. That will cost some money. There are rumors about the amounts necessary to affect such a change, and it’s likely the school will have to pay a premium to leave immediately. That will be a serious factor in the board’s decision.

We’re not going to do it if it is a negative,” [Board of Trustee Chairman Patrick J.] O’Connor says. “If it is a net positive, we’ll do it. We’re not going to spend money to lose money.”
[Emphasis mine]

As I posted previously, normally it would be Temple that would pay the termination fee, not the Big East. That isn't to say that some other arrangement couldn't be negotiated, however. I know Colorado paid the Big 12 when they went to the PAC-10, and Nebraska paid when they went to the Big Tendozen. I doubt this will be a big deal, though. I'm sure Temple alums would pony up the fee.

Wow, really? Is that what you took away from the quotes?

“I think we were a natural choice to join the Big East months ago,” he says. “It baffles me that they let in some of the schools they did before "]["emple.”

Spend our $$ wisely......Goodbye

We've repeatedly requested you (by which I of course mean temple) get lost. So come on, do it already.

The Temple "imminent" departure has certainly turned into one of "delayed" extrication, although MF55er is without question a "Premature" extricator.

Not really, its just a matter of hammering out the payments and the legalese. My service to this board is extinguishing the hopes of those who think somehow, someway, "]["emple will be continuing its conference association with the MAC. We wont, its over, but dont lose faith. God wants "]['emple in the Big East too.

I heard it's not God that you have to convince, it's NOVA! Yea, that NOVA of NO D1 football fame, and to date you haven't had much luck convincing, or are you fools reduced to praying to God that NOVA lets Temple in, as I assume that's a Templeton in your picture praying for NOVA's "blessing"!

Actually Im praying for Chesapeake Energy to land a lion's share of those fracking leases in your county. Thats what you should be talking about instead of hanging off your living room folding chairs worrying about "]["emple's ascencion out of the MUCk. w a 20% windfall over the last month, I can pay my share toward the exit fee....

You just confirmed our view that you're a frackin' idiot.  Please go to another board and double the IQ on this one.

How many times did Temple win the MAC? Good riddance, and I hope they enjoy it in Conference USA II.

If they actually end up going to the BE, you might say their motto is: "If you can't beat 'em, leave 'em."

Looks like another 1,000 view thread of folks desperate to know what's happening @ "]["emple.

Tell you what, the good folks at Bagel St Deli said if you mention my name they'll give you a Flamin Moe for $5.50, tomorrow only in honor of the Owl Ascension

The reason people go to the circus is to laugh at the clowns, not for the news.

I will concede that the first two days of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament are the two most exciting days in American sports. But, good Lord, I miss football. Those videos are awesome, and our video crew does an amazing job of putting them together. I can watch them over and over, and the feeling never goes away.

Go Bobcats.

The thing I think we'll miss most with Temple's absence? The near "automatic" WINS!

I do get spoiled with these videos, but Temple is also putting out some great vids these days.

Interesting to see a writer in Philly actually advocate that Temple tell the Big East to shove it unless they accept all of Temple's demands for full membership and payment of all its exit fees.  Even mentions how the MAC was beneficial in helping Temple rebuild its football program.

"]["emple....Ohio's Super Bowl, Who you fellas gonna replace us with ? Webb, Buffalo, Akron ? Couldn't help but chuckle at some of the lifeless threads when not playing the Owl, like this one, a guy from Newark panhandling for homecoming tix.
