TT another 10-15 lbs and it shows on the long ball...Hunyh being Hunyh....Is it football yet?

For those of me with bad memory, how did our recruiting class end up being ranked MAC and nationally?

Good write up. My favorite part?

"Ohio’s pistol-based, up-tempo attack should be more refined this season. The Bobcats went to the hurry-up offense for the first time last season and at times used it to great effect. With a returning starting quarterback in Tyler Tettleton, the pace should be a touch faster this fall."

The hurry up works. We need to use it more.

One way to look at is to look at the losses:
OFFENSE
OL - Lose Flading and Strum, both all-MAC, but return 9 of the top 11, and there were solid backups for both
TE - Lose Zac Clark, but return Thompson, Robak and Knight, plus add Troy Hill
RB - Lose Harden, but return Boykin and Blankenship
QB - Lost Snyder and Bell, but return TT and Vick
WR - Lost Brazill, Dunlop, Bates and Gross, return Bussy, Foster, N'Goumou, Dovell, Futrell, Landon Smith, Cochran, add Waters

Offensive line, TE, and QB should be as better than last year. RB should be comparable. WR will probably be a bit worse, but it depends how the players develop. There is a lot of talent there, and I have confidence in coach Dixon. On the whole I think the offense is a bit better than last year.

DEFENSE
DT/NG - Everyone inside is back except Jeff King, who missed most of last year with a knee injury
DE - Curt Meyers is gone, Scott, Barber return, along with lots of juco , redshirt freshmen, and true freshmen
ILB - gone is Keller, Moore is moving to ILB and will compete with Edmonds, Russell, Stefanski, etc.
OLB - Eric Benjamin is gone, Lewis, Woseley, and Grady return, along with a host of others
CB - Essentially everyone is back
S - Essentially everyone is back, Hughes should be healthy again

With Huynh healthy again, and loads of new DE's competing to play with three seniors (Jones, Scott, and Huynh), I expect the defensive line to be a significant improvement this year. The entire secondary is back, so again, there should be improvement there, and OLB looks solid. The only mystery on defense is ILB. If someone can step up and play solidly there, the defense should be better than last year.

SPECIAL TEAMS
Lose Hershey and LaVoie - The two competing for the punting job, Teipel and Venham, are both althletic, but will they be able to pull off the fakes that Hershey did? They may actually kick with more consistency, though. I am not really concerned. On the whole special teams will be as good as last year.

On the whole, then, I expect a team that is slightly better than last year. Last year's team ended up ranked 69.08 on Sagarin's predictor, so I'll call this one a 73, about where Northern Illinois ended up last year. That should put Ohio right in the mix for a conference championship. It would also put them about in the middle of the Big Tendozen, and should mean a very close matchup with Penn State, who was ranked 77 last year. I expect Penn State to be favored by less than a TD.

I am really excited to see some of these young defensive linemen. Seems like they all are long, lean pass rushing types. If this defense can get pressure with their front four look out. Everyone's life is easier.

I for one am hoping that Vegas figures Penn State as a 15-30 point favorite. Its not likely, given the returning talent and just our W-L numbers from the year, but I'd prefer they be overlooking us, look at us as a tune-up game rather than a serious challenge. Pride be damned, I'd prefer every advantage we can get.

After reading the report on the scrimmage yesterday, as well as some of these other reports, I'm of the mind set that our "D" will be improved, particularly our pass rush.
On the "O" side I don't feel we are weaker at the RB position, WR perhaps.
On special teams we loose some experienced players but was our punting better in 2011 than 2010? I don't think so, so therefore I think that position will be replaced. Now the return guys is an unknown factor at this point.
Barring any major injuries this could be our best year ever.
Overall I believe we are the favorites to win both the East and the MAC Championship. I can see us going 12-2 in 2012, and very possibly being ranked at sometime during the season.
This will be Solich's most enjoyable coaching year.

I think we've done well with our recruiting. Last year, we got some talented players to develop. I look for these guys to re-load well in the places vacated by our seniors.

I really like Tyler Tettleton. I think he plays hard and wants to win every down. Really enjoyed his leadership last season.

Hyunh is what, 6-2, 300? Clark lists at 6-3, tree fiddy? A bit long, definitely not lean. I think its going to be like parking a mobile home at the line of scrimmage. Access to anywhere on the field will require going around them.

I was referencing guys like Bennett, Haser, Davis, Price and Purdum. The defensive end position. All of these guys are 6-3 plus and somewhere between 225 and 260. We haven't really seen any of them play yet and all are longer edge pass rusher types.
Defensive tackle is a whole different ball game. Their job in the 4-3 is mostly gap control and keeping the Mike clean. Huynh is excellent at that and Cruthcher looks to be in that mold. We will see on Clark, hard to get excited about him until he is checking in for fall camp.
