Hello, Bobcats. I come in peace.  I'm a moderator of a Penn State Board at a general sports site, and I'm going to start a way-too-early preview of some of our games, starting with the Ohio one (it is pretty dead this time of year, need something to do in the off-season). I was just trying to get some info on your team - I looked up your record from last year, and the basics. I was wondering stuff like:
(1) How many starters did you guys lose? How many are coming back?
(2) General observations about strengths, weaknesses of the team this year coming in.
(3) Are there any good twitter feeds for Bobcat football?

Good to hear from you.  There have been many threads on here that answer your questions.  There are others on here who are quicker at pointing folks to the resources so I'll leave it to them.

STARTERS LOST
OFFENSE
RB Dante Harden, 3rd-team All-MAC
WR Lavon Brazill, 2nd-team All-MAC, leading receiver in school history, NFL draft pick
WR Riley Dunlop, 2nd-leading receiver last year
LT A.J. Strum, 3rd-team All-MAC
RT Joe Flading, 1st-team All-MAC
Also WR/QB Phill Bates wasn't really a starter but he got an NFL contract

DEFENSE
DE Curtis Meyers, often injured in his career
MLB Noah Keller, 2nd-team All-MAC
OLB Eric Benjamin* played on and off and not at full strength last year due to injury
CB Omar Leftwich* didn't graduate but not with team

SPECIAL TEAMS
P Paul Hershey, super athletic punter

STARTERS RETURNING
OFFENSE
QB Tyler Tettleton, 3rd-team All-MAC
WR Donte Foster, 3rd-leading receiver
TE Jordan Thompson, great blocker and good receiver
LG John Lechner, started every game except injured for bowl game
C Skyler Allen, started every game except injured last 2 games
RG Eric Herman, 2nd-team All-MAC

DEFENSE
DE Tremayne Scott, 2nd-team All-MAC
NT Neil Huynh, was having All-MAC season until an injury midway through, came back late
DT Carl Jones, missed a couple of games with injury last year
OLB Alphonso Lewis, 3rd-leading tackler
OLB Jelani Wosely, 5th in tackles
CB Travis Carrie, 2nd-team All-MAC
FS Gerald Moore, 2nd on team in tackles
SS Xavier Huges* hurt early last year
SS Josh Kristoff, started after Hughes' injury
NB Nathan Carpenter* played a lot in nickel packages

SPECIAL TEAMS
K Matt Weller, 2nd-team All-MAC

QB Tyler Tettleton and the offensive line will be the strength of the offense this year. He's a dual-threat QB (3,302 yards passing, 658 rushing last year). Lost two very good tackles, but offensive line was probably the deepest position last year. Florida State transfer takes over at one tackle spot. Running back was somewhat by committee with three guys, with two returning. Wide receiver is probably the biggest question mark on offense, but a couple of recruits could help fill that void.

Not much lost on defense and there was lots of depth gained last year due to all kinds of injuries, especially on the defensive line. Also brought in a few JCs on the DL so although the DL was a bit of a weakness, espeically as far as pressuring the QB, it could be very good this year. The biggest lost defensively is Keller, who was the QB of the defense, but he wasn't 100 percent most of last year either. The secondary was set to return basically everyone but Leftwich had an injury/academic issue and no longer is with the team.

We're horrible. Don't worry about us at all. Your time will be so much better spent worrying about your 2nd week opponent.

C.'s on the Money here. Ohio is a MAC team FCOL. PSU would not have offered anyone on the Ohio roster.  Nevermind Phil Steele's impressions or that Coach Solich currently has scoreboard againt PSU. Would be wise to look ahead.

It is really simple.  We are fat, slow and have no talent whatsoever.  Other than the money you will pay us to come to your smackdown of us,  I have no clue as to why we would schedule such a powerhouse as PSU.  I just hope we have kids left healthy after the game so we can play the rest of the schedule.  Our kids are basically Div. III rejects who could not even walk on at places like Gannon, Frostburg State, etc.   If I am PSU I do not even bother studying us at all.  I just prepare the players for whoever PSU plays after us.

Thanks, I've got the thread going now, based on some of the info here. I'll be dropping or just spying from time-to-time. I don't know if it is cool to post a link to it or not. I did link ,in the thread, to you guys.

We're big on grammar too...

We escaped against Temple's JV team the last couple of years if that is any indication of our talent level.

Below is a JMlion71 quote.

"'Well, guess we're killing time until the kickoff on Sept. 1. Thought I would set up a scouting report on our first opponent, the Ohio Bobcats. First, I'm going to list some media resources so that we can spy on them, and maybe even go over there and talk some trash".

JMlion71, spy away, trash talking not so much.

Looking at the projected All Big-Tendozen players, by Phil Steele, we find the following:
First team:
Gerald Hodges, LB

Second Team:
Silas Redd, RB
Jordan Hill, DT

Third Team:
Justin Brown, WR
Michael Mauti, LB

Fourth Team:
Sean Stanley, DE
Glenn Carson, LB
Anthony Fera, K/P
Justin Brown, PR

Interestingly there is not a single offensive lineman, and only 2 offensive skill players (WR and RB) that get mentioned. On defense, the LB corps looks strong, with three of them mentioned, and two linemen, but no one at all from the secondary.

For PSU fans, the All-Mac list of Ohio players looks like:
First Team
Eric Herman, OG
Tremayne Scott, DE
Travis Carrie, CB
Matt Weller, K

Second Team
Tyler Tettleton, QB
Skyler Allen, C
Jon Lechner, OG
Travis Carrie, PR

Third Team
Jordan Thompson, TE
Carl Jones, DT
Alphonso Lewis, LB
Gerald Moore, S

Fourth Team
Beau Blankenship, RB
Neal Huynh, DT

That sets up some interesting matchups. Ohio's offensive line against Penn State's defensive line and LB will be strength against strength. Ohio's inexperienced WR against Penn State's secondary will be the less experience against less. My initial reaction is that this will be a relatively low scoring affair. Both teams have good place kickers, so expect some 3's.

Undervalued, Neal Huynh. Ready to step up, Kieth Moore.  Vs Miami Kieth covered for NK and managed ten tkls, 1 1/2 sks and earned MAC East Def Player of the Week. Should Kieth lose the spot it will mean there is even better to come. Last time Coach Solich saw PSU he only passed six times in an 18-10 win.  If Ohio's new OTs can step up, might be like that again.
