Boise State, naturally, is first.

They can't get there without a win in the opener. It can happen - Go Bobcats.

Does anybody else think that the Basketball team's run could help the football bobcats should they go undefeated?

There are naturally going to be those fans who scream that this jinxes the team or gets expectations too high (I.e. the 'it' team).  Those people are wrong.  College football, more than anything else in sports, is based on expectations.  If people expect us to be great and we are, that puts us on the radar.  If people don't find out who we are until week six or so when we're beating Buffalo and UMass, that won't do anything for us.  Keep the accolades coming, they only help us out moving forward.

Don't underestimate the importance of being on National TV six times last year, and winning 5. That was huge.

The key thing is that they are starting they year on the radar (barely) at ~50 or so. The only game they play that can move them up significantly is Penn State. Win that, and they will be in the top 30-35. After that, as long as they win every week, they might move a notch here, a notch there. Can they crash the BCS? I'm not going to worry about that. I just want to see them win one game at a time.

Yes, at least one more thinks this could be the case.

L.C.--Remember when there were doubter/complainers about midweek games...because they'd make it difficult to attend live?  I appreciate wanting to be there live.  But, c'mon, it was so obvious that TV exposure was a huge opp--for friends/alumni of OHIO and those who didn't know us....Then, we did our part!

Whenever I'm in Va,DC,MD..aka the DMV..I hear from college football fans about how much fun those mid-week games look. They were in awe at how much fun out team and fans seemed to be having..granted its not a 80k stadium but Peden is beautiful and who cares if you have a huge stadium thats not full of screaming fans. Well Peden was almost full and the fans were ROCKING. That sir is invaluable exposure.

Its all so great! Why hasn't camp started!!!!????

I think its also important for the players to hear this kind of stuff. Confidence can do wonders and it will motivate our guys to work hard this Summer. I mean, we have something to work for! The same can't be said for many other programs around the MAC.

Even though we know that the stadium wasn't completely full, EPSN camerawork did a great job of showing only the parts that were full, and the fans that were at the game were definitely into the game. The blackout game looked particularly awesome on TV. As a fan watching on TV, the attitude of the fans in the stand rubs off on you. When they are into the game, and intense, the fan on TV is going to watch longer, and pay more attention because the whole atmosphere seems more fun than when you watch a game in front of empty seats. Definitely the fans deserve kudos, too.

Wish I could jump on board the train here, but our offense will be much weaker this year after losing our two best wide receivers, running back, and offensive tackles.  Tettleton could be scrambling for his life a lot.  I think we'll have a pretty good season and make a bowl game, but we haven't proven anything yet to deserve even the thought of going undefeated.  Sorry for the dose of reality folks.

It may be tough getting fan interest for the midweek home games this season -- EMU (five days after the Fiami road game) and BGSUcks.  Let's hope these games really mean something (an undefeated season on the line would be good) so fans will have a really good reason to come out.

Of the teams mentioned in the story, I think BYU has the best opportunity to crash the BCS because they've scheduled a good mix of big name teams and others.  They have four games vs. AQ teams -- Washington State and Oregon State at home and at Utah and Georgia Tech -- plus road games to ND and Boise.  All of these are very winnable for them, and it would impress pollsters with wins.  They also will be at San Jose St. and NMSU and home to Weber St., Hawaii, Utah St and Idaho.  It's possible for them to run the table, and if they have easy wins vs. the last six teams mentioned, they could find themselves at a BCS bowl.  For Ohio to get in, they would have to beat Penn St and crush everybody else.

Buddy, we know that. On the other hand, the defense should be better than last year, so on the whole I think this team is probably on a par with last year.plus or minus 5 points.

Last year's team could have gone undefeated, had the ball bounced the right way. They lost to Rutgers by 8, Buffalo by 1, and to Ball State and NIU by 3. Even if they had gone undefeated they would still not have crashed the BCS, though. The reason was that they never started "on the map", nor would they have had any major wins.

This year's team will need some breaks along the way to be undefeated. They may also need to be better than expected. No one is counting on that, but that doesn't mean we can't hope for it. The thing we are saying is that IF they do go undefeated, this year they ARE starting out on the radar, and this year if they are undefeated, that would mean they had to beat Penn State Thus, this year they do have an outside chance to make the BCS, unlike last year, or years prior.

Part of me wants to dream a little and think that this team will pull off the PSU upset and then run the table winning by an average of 20 points per game and get a shot at the big enchilada.  Then the rational part of me takes over and says that a win in what will surely be a highly emotional Happy Valley is most unlikely and that the boys will inexplicably lose at least one game they should have won and we'll be in the GoDaddy.com bowl come season's end.

For somebody who has followed the Bobcats ever since he was old enough to say "Muck Fiami", the past few seasons have been nothing but pure joy and the new season, no matter how it turns out, is something to look forward to.   Especially for an ex-pat Bobcat living 1,300 miles away from the 50 yard line at Peden Stadium.

I don't think that the receivers will be as bad as some seem to think and I do believe that the defense will be dominant.  Especially when conference play starts.  Just pray that they avoid any major injuries which have hurt the team in the past.

Maybe the boys can have another successful season and schedule a home and home with the University of Houston in the future.  How cool would that be? (Especially for me!)
