I can't figure out why he thinks Coach Solich's position is less secure this year than last (click here).  Last season was considerably better than the year before, and I haven't heard one person clamoring for the Coach's removal, even if this season is worse.  Anyway, here are his rankings for MAC coaches (the lower the number, the more secure the coach is):

Coach Solich 2.0 this season/1.5 last season
Terry Bowden (Akron) 0.5 /NA
Pete Lembo (BSU) 2.0/1.0
Dave Clawson (BGSUcks) 3.5/2.5
Jeff Quinn (Buffalo) 4.0/2.5
Dan Enos (CMU) 4.5/2.0
Ron English (EMU) 1.5/2.5 (not sure I agree with this one; if he doesn't produce this season, he could be gone)
Darrell Hazzell (KSU) 1.5/1.0
Charley Molnar (UMass) 2.0/NA
Don Treadwell (Fiami) 2.0/1.0
Dave Doeren (NIU) 0.5/0.5
Matt Campbell (Toledo) 1.5/NA
Bill Cubit (WMU) 3.0/1.5

And of interest, Doc Holliday (Terd) 1.5/1.0

The Saturday Orlando Sentinel print edition had a little story about three coaches on the proverbial hot seat, including CMU's Dan Enos. Sorry I couldn't locate it online.

Maybe he thinks that Solich is too old, and that with a bad season he might be pressed to retire? Other than that, raising his rating is nonsense.

I do agree that Quinn and Enos are the the hottest seats. As for Cubit's seat being hot, I don't know much about the fan support he has at WMU, but he has a pretty good record as far and showing steady long term improvement, and doing consistently well. If their fans want to get rid of him, they deserve to end up with a Montgomery, Snyder or a iCoach.  As for English - I agree with you. He seems OK, but I don't think he's really secure.

The Optimist's Hot Seat rankings
Frank Solich 0.0
Steve Hays 5.0
Bernard Debatin 4.5

I've seen crazier things happen.

I was definitely upset/disappointed that we lost the MAC Championship Game last year and played pretty poorly in the others but I think we all know we wouldn't have even been there if not for Frank.  Certainly everyone in Cutler and the Convo have to feel the same way.

Here's an alternate view of hotseats. Per coacheshotseat.com
Hot - Enos #8
Edge - Clawson #18, Quinn #19, Treadwell #30
Safe - Campbell $50, Bowden #56, Lembo #65, English #66, Hazell #69, Cubit #70, Solich #89. Doeren #111

Another view of coaches - this one uses a methodology that is arguably biased in favor of top teams, coachesbythenumbers
Rating them from best to worst:
41 Doeren
49 Solich
74 Cubit
86 Lembo
92 Hazell
94 Clawson
95 Treadwell
100 Enos
104 Quinn
105 English
not rated - Bowden, Campbell

I would say  that all three agree that the Doeren is at the top, and Enos, Quinn, and Clawson are towards the least safe, with Treadwell a bit behind them. The coaches they disagree on are all ones that we have brought up already:

Solich - Dodd mysteriously has him at 2.0, while the other 2 place him at the top. I think everyone here agrees Dodd is wrong

Cubit - Dodd mysteriously has him at 3.0. The other 2 have him as the 3rd best in the MAC. I agree with the other two services, but I don't know how WMU fans feel. I suppose it's possible that they aren't satisfied with the #2 and #3 finishes.

English - Dodd thinks he's safe, at 1.5, and he may be (with a good year). He's in the middle of the pack at coacheshotseat, and that may be right, I think he's done well enough that he is safe for a year, but a warning is that coachesbythenumbers puts him at the bottom. They place him there because his first two years were very bad. Based on last year's performance, he'd be higher, up around Hazell at 92. With continued improvement, he's safe, but if it starts looking like last year was a fluke, his seat could get warm in a hurry.
