I attended a wedding a few weeks ago at which I met Brian Knorr's cousin. He told me a funny story about our former coach which I stored away in memory to tell you all. Unfortunately, I can no longer remember it. Possible topics of the story include:

His locker room behavior as a player
Something about him being told not to ever pass the ball by his high school football coach
His preference in soap

I really do not remember. Feel free to suggest things that may prompt my memory to begin working again.

How fumbling the ball away every 3rd play is actually a strategy to keep your offense rested for the 4th quarter.

Preferring onside kicks to start a half? Or was that Lichtenberg?

Grobe has moved Knorr from coaching the wide receivers, back to defense as LB Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/2011-03-15-41989106_x.htm

He was once a Division 1 head coach?

He was the keynote speaker at a coaching conference and chose as his subject "Field goal kicking and clock management in late game situations."

While electing to execute an onside kick "to start a half" is indeed unusual,  do not assume that it will always be unsuccessful or, if successful, that it will have no significant impact on the outcome of the game.  I shall briefly describe a case in point.
As OU's 1955 Homecoming game against Kent State began, OU had defeated the Flashes for four consecutive years, one of those wins being by one point and one, by one touchdown.  Veteran Kent Coach Trevor Rees had apparently devoted some thought to a opening play which he was convinced would give his team a needed edge.
Kent State kicked off to open the game.  It was an onside kick, and it was successful.  The Flashes' drive thus begun ended with a touchdown and a conversion; 7-0, Kent State.  The Homecoming crowd and the Bobcats appeared stunned by this course of events.
The Flashes played a tough, physical game, and eventually prevailed, 20-14, the first of three consecutive losses for the Bobcats which ruined any hope for an MAC title, and the first of four consecutive OU losses to Kent State.

Maybe it was about the note he sent to Dan Enos thanking him for replacing Knorr as the latest "Golden Goose Killer" in the MAC.
