Thst's in line with the national consensus, which I posted earlier.

Note that the national picks reverse the order of the top 3 for the west, to WMU, NIU, then Toledo.

Looks like everyone thinks the West will be more competitive than the East. I'm just happy we won't see any of the West's top 3. Until the MAC Championship of course.

With all these positives, unanimous pick to win the east, picked as high as #31 by Steele, and <45 by presnapread, here's a couple slightly lower preseason picks. CompughterRatings has Ohio at #65. CFN/Scout has them at #81.

Wow...Duke, Old Miss, Indiana (1-11 last year with the lone win against a FCS team?!!)  all ranked better than us?   That's a bit of a stretch.

Hope we can prove the pundits correct and celebrate our first MAC title since 1968.  On top of what the basketball program did last year if both the football team and basketball teams have big years that could really help the MAC.

The writers usually pick the previous year's East winner, but no East team has won back-to-back division titles since '03-'04.  Hope that streak ends this year.

A look back at last year's poll and how they actually finished:

MAC East Division

1. Miami (T4th)
2. Ohio (1st)
3. Temple (2nd)
4. Kent State (3rd)
5. Bowling Green (T4th)
6. Buffalo (6th)

7. Akron (7th)

MAC West Division
1. Toledo (T1st)
2. Northern Illinois (T1st*)
3. Western Michigan (3rd)
4. Central Michigan (6th)

5. Ball State (T4th)
6. Eastern Michigan (T4th)

2011 Marathon MAC Championship Game Winner:
Toledo 5, Northern Illinois 3, Miami 3, Ohio 1, Western Michigan 1 (several voters did not select a winner for the MAC Championship)

The Cats got 8 of the 16 first place votes, so half the media can say they were right.

We will get by.
We will get by.
We will get by.
We will survive.

I'm beginning to lose my faith in Pete Fiutak and Co. over at CFN. They ranked those teams ahead of us because of their BCS affiliation most likely, and not for any legit reason. I like the fact that Steele and others actually look at the schedule, talent on the roster, and coaching...ya know...the important stuff. I could see getting ranked behind Ole Miss because they're in the SEC, but Indiana and Duke? Eh...

And fans of West teams get to keep whining about our schedule, so everyone wins.
