Anyone think this game will now be bumped to ESPN4 or worse? Gotta say I have a bad feeling about this game now.

Heck no. I think this is the top story of the year and ESPN will be there full force to profit off of Penn State's misfortunes. Just my opinion.

Let me see, money involved....I think the NCAA and ESPN will keep it at ESPN.  Also found it ironic that the President of Ore St was up there talking about not having programs run the university when his in-state brethren are owned by Nike.

No way it gets bumped. Everyone is the country will be watching to see the first Penn State game after all of this. If anything, I think it'll get even higher ratings than it would have before the JoePa statue came down/NCAA penalties.

I don't know if anorris (or anyone else) knows what the highest rated ESPN week one noon game is, but I think this will easily be the highest rated game in its timeslot, and probably the highest on cable the entire opening weekend.

I heard today that they lost all TV games as well as the postseason ban, fine, etc.

That could have been speculation on the part of ESPN and others, but I have heard from multiple media outlets that they were not allowed TV games also.

EDIT: Everyone on here is saying that TV games are still going to happen, but I haven't heard this confirmed either way. It wasnt handed down in the punishments, so I'm wondering why it all of a sudden came up that they weren't allowed on TV. Was everyone assuming that since the same thing happened to SMU?

I think they are allowed on TV, but all the money from the TV contracts goes to charity.

As far as I know, Penn State still gets its share of the B1G regular season TV money. It's the bowl money ($13 million) that must be donated to charity.

Insane.  No way it gets pulled, and I'm sure it will rate very well.

I think the only way it is moved from ESPN is if the team gets decimated by transfers. Even then it is doubtful.

Like others just said, it will be a MAJOR news item and you just know Gameday will spend alot of time on this game with in depth pieces and such like that.

question- if we're up 42-3 at the half does Solich send in the subs and run out the clock in the second half or do we start TT's Heisman campaign with a bang?

Might not be televised because it is not a sure thing it will be played. When all the player poaching is complete, Penn State may not have enough to safely field a team this fall.

This might be fatalistic thinking at the PSU messageboard, but click the link and read how the numbers add up to a possible forfeit?

ps. this is not some internet poster hack(like most of us). He is highly regarded in terms of all things Penn State.(ala Ted Thompson)

I believe that it will be surprising on how many players stay.

So that being said, I obviously don't think the team will be decimated by transfers.

Even if it is - the interest will be too high. ESPN scheduled this game, knowing very well that there was going to be more to this game. These penalties make it even more significant.

It doesn't matter if the whole team leaves and they recruit Scott Bakula to play quarterback - this game will be on ESPN and watched by a ton of people.

I don't read that piece as adding up to a possible forfiet. The article talks about being unable to field a competitive team, not about being unable to field a team period. In the worst case, they could give scholarships to walk-ons and hold open tryouts among the student body. I have no doubt that they could find 40-some guys who played in high school and would kill for the chance to play big-time college football AND get their tuition etc. paid.

First off, Penn State does not have 85 players on its roster. They have 105, and up to 125 once classes begin. They'll be able to field a team. How many scholarship players is the only question. I think most will stay.

Spot on, Mike.  They could lose 30 or 40 guys and still have enough to field a team and be able to put almost everybody on scholarship.  I think they'll lose some guys who are looking to play pro ball and think that being on a team that has a shot at a bowl game will help that.  But I think most will realize that Penn St is still a huge venue to play at and a well-respected school for academics.  They're likely to go farther toward pro ball there than at a MAC or CUSA or a MWC school.

According to ESPN, O'Brien is using PSU's TV games as a carrot for players to stay.

The poster of that article may be very respected, but I think he's thinking both worst case scenario and that he's having a knee jerk reaction.

Ultimately, Penn State can't *afford* to sit out the season. That's why the $60 million dollar fine is so important, they need to play games so their revenue streams stay open, so they can pay off the fine.
