Is that a verbatim copy and paste listing?

If so I LOVE how they listed Oxford Tech!

82, it is a verbatim lift from an AP story.

Miami has one of the highest % of students involved in fraternities/sororities in the nation, figured they would be higher.

In reality, of the 3 campuses I've been to the most (Ohio, Miami, Ohio State) none of them are any different from a partying standpoint.

Every college town is the same, whats different is the student and who they are.

If a kids wants to, they could find a party on any given night no matter if they are in Morgantown, Athens, or Timbuk-freakin-tu...

Thats why I am so sick of this stupid survey, and the people that think that just because they send their kids to XYZ University, they are going to be more succesful than at ABC University because of something like this.....

I knew of just as many drinkers/partiers from colleges in C-bus, Cincy and Cleveland both public and private...and it had nothing to do with what school they were from, all academics and on-campus opportunities were similar....it has to do with the personal choices that the kid makes.

Thank you PT Grad.  I've been saying that for years.  Every school's a party school if you're looking for one -- even Utah.  It's a place where 18 to 22 year olds full of hormones and bravado congregate.  What do you expect!!!

FACT: Far more drunks on High Street than on Court Street. (Not the High Street that we cafeteria trayed down while the friendly Athens Police stopped the sparse W. Union Street traffic as we thrill seekers we flew into the intersection, circa 1976)

To me, the party school image is a complement. How did we get that image? Because our students ENJOY themselves. Students from other schools come to visit and ENJOY themselves. It's a great atmosphere. Contributing to it is the beautiful campus, the small town feel, the Bobcat pride, etc.

Of course students at every school drink and have parties, but all parties are not created equal. I went to one house party at Temple and I can promise you it was the lamest thing ever. Every big weekend at OU we'd have our friends form Kent, Fiami, OSU, UC, etc. come stay with us. Why? Because their schools are BORING.

We party better.

The best part of Miami being on the list is they can no longer dismiss it as a shameful ranking but we still beat them by a wide margin.  I take no shame in our most recent National Championship.

Fact is fact though....and despite what all of us know as faithful Ohio alums...this press HAS a negative impact on OUr institution's reputation

I am a physical therapist south of Dayton (hence PTgrad) and I work in a sports medicine setting, my patients range from the high school athlete to their parents....I love representing Ohio University in all aspects, academics and athletics...but, .in this geographical  area kids and their parents have a huge array of choices of where to go for their college education..and all I can say without getting too wordy is that every time I mention that I went to Ohio...I almost always get....

"Oh...that's the party school"

nuff said....and with that I will step off my soap box.

Sales is asking questions such that the answerer internalizes/learns the answer.  So, ask your 'oh, that party school' friends if they think partying happens at any other schools and if, possibly, the reason for Ohio's party reputation could be that Athens is a close knit, vibrant town which might produce great people such as you.  Are they comfortable with your skills and manner?  Where did you learn those?

Does it negatively affect our rep? Show me some objective data that says that. Hell, I'll settle for correlation. All of the schools on that list are respected schools. My other alma mater, Delaware, has a party rep and is well-respected. I live a couple blocks from Penn, which has a party rep and is Ivy League. Compare to the "stone-cold sober" list, which has several schools of questionable academic rep.

Yes, I have had the issue come up in my professional life. People will crack a joke about how crazy/fun it must've been. I laugh and say that it was a blast and I'll always remember it fondly. Nothing negative has come of it though. Those people still respect me professionally and know that I'm down to grab a beer at the end of a long day.

Whenever I get hit with the party school routine, I just ask a few questions starting with: “Have you ever been to Ohio University, the school known as a state leader in Fulbright awards, the university with the Russ College of Engineering, the Edison Biotechnology Institute, the Scripps College of Communication, the College of Health Sciences, the school with the Honors Tutorial College, the Patton School of Education, the Heritage School of Osteopathic Medicine…you mean that party school?”

The response received is usually a blank stare.

We work hard and we play hard.  I treasure my time and experiences at Ohio and am proud to be part of the Bobcat Nation.

CLARIFICATION: It is wrong to say that the sober schools have bad reps. What I meant to say was that many of them are not well known. Others are indeed very good academically. The point I was trying to make is that overall the party schools are more widely known.

It would just be nice if the party school reputation wasn't the first thing people thought of when talking about our university.  And I would argue that there are plenty of parents out there who have stopped their kids from coming here because of this reputation, whereas I doubt this is the case with Miami or OSU even though they have just as many parties as we do.  Unfortunately we always have to work harder to explain the benefits of OU in order to overcome the reputation and perceptions that have developed because of a halloween party.

Kind of a paradox here.  By totally dismissing Ohio University based on an instant, shallow look, these people prove that they are not worthy of the Ohio.  We are a community which goes deeper, which considers each other without pre-conceived notions.  That's a solid way to approach life...one which the 'rejecters' just don't get and which will diminish their own lives.  SImplistic, absolutist positions are rarely beneficial.  (Now are you all going to jump me because I just shot down 'no new taxes...no taxes at all!' by my analogy.)

There's one reason WVU beat out Ohio this year, their students did a better job of stuffing the ballot box.  This "survey" is a shame and means nothing.  That's what I tell folks when I get the "party school" response when I say where I went to school of where I live.  I also tell folks about our fine academic reputation.  Many of them seem surprised that we have a medical school and and engineering school.  All they know about us is that we are a "party school."  So, I concur that on balance it's not a good thing to be on this list.

Oh and by the way, Miami officially has no room to talk regarding our party reputation. This among other problems they've had with their fraternities and sororities lately.

They don't even like each other...fireworks it is!
