In a unique reversal, Akron Zips wideout Jared Fagnano recently transferred to Penn State -- largely because of the NCAA's sanctions against the school.

While nine players have decided to leave the Nittany Lions in the face of a postseason ban and fewer scholarships, Fagnano saw an opportunity.

For about a week, the redshirt freshman talked with his parents and brother -- Penn State safety Jake Fagnano -- about a transfer.

"With all those guys leaving, it opened up spots and gave me an opportunity," said Jared Fagnano, who lives in Williamsport, Pa. "And I've just always wanted to play football there."

Did I miss something?  Does college football now have a post season playoff?

And Penn St wideout Devon Smith transfers to Marshall. As a soph, he caught 27 passes for 363 yards. Also 2nd in Big 10+1 in punt returns.

You missed the fact that bowls are often considered post season.

This is post season.  The bowls are more along the lines of tourism events and I truly enjoyed the one in Mobile.

No, conference championship games and bowl games are considered post-season in college football.

Are you committed to sucking the fun out of everything or does it just come naturally?

the PSU message boards are interesting on this subject. They are all excited a transfer is arriving from" Akron". Nobody though has asked is he transferring because he was encouraged by the new coaching staff to do so.

"Akron joke" is a redundancy.

Not only does he get a chance to play for a better program, but also gets a better school name on the diploma (at least among academic circles).  More power to him.

Dude was a walk-on who wasn't even invited to their preseason camp.

If he gets a scholarship, they're in some real dire straits.
