Hocking College students

Does anyone know if there are any special deals for Hocking College students wanting to attend Ohio athletic events? For example, game tickets and also the student tailgate behind Peden. Or anything else.

Not a bad idea. Also, why not intensively target the branch campuses for both football and hoops. Since all the branches have basketball teams (possibly club level), bring 'em down to the Convo for a tourney followed by a men's game. Get the branch students to buy into being part of campus athletics.
More fans in the seats is always a good thing and could lead to long-term support for the programs.

If I recall correctly, branch students get the same ticket deals as main campus students. They just need to physically get down to Athens, which for most isn't worth the trip if they don't know too many people down here.

FWIW, I am 95% sure the OUS Proctorville Center is hosting a tailgate before the Marshall game, and will be taking a load of students to the game. I know they brought a bunch up last year.

I have a buddy who works at the Eastern Campus, and I know that they're hosting "Eastern Campus Day" for the New Mexico State game. The faculty/staff got $5 tickets and he's bringing a good size group down to the game.

Not sure about Hocking College, but there may be a similar deal...

At the Georgetown game in Providence I sat next to some guys who were branch campus students (think it was Chillicothe or Zanesville). Pretty cool.

A deal for Hocking students would be a great thing.

I go to Chillicothe and Lancaster campuses (my house is in Laurelville; an almost equal drive to both places.) I've wanted to go to the main campus, but money talks. I've went to the OU games that I could when I was off of work and have tried to get my buddies to go to games too and have been doing good with a few (we're planning a group trip to Huntington). There are two problems about attracting branch students that I've observed.

1) There is not much connect between the branch campuses and athletics at the main campus. Maybe a flier here and there, but other than that, there's not much talk of OU games in my experiences. Maybe that will change this season, but I wish there was a better connect between Athens and the branches. Heck, half of the people I've talked to didn't even know that their student ID's get them the same deals going to Lancaster Campus that a main campus student gets for athletics. (DISCLAIMER: this is just my experience; there may be some things that I'm missing.)

2) The two branches I go to have mainly Ohio State fans. Being "just a branch campus" there's not much reason for the students to switch teams or even pay attention to Ohio athletics until the big games. Even that isn't always a big sell.

I go to Hocking now and as far as I am aware there are no deals for students. Luckily I went to Ohio my freshman year so I kept my OU ID.

I was able to secure some NC State fans as Bobcat fans at the UNC game by agreeing that our generation would be the ones to do away with tucking our shirts in. I also agreed that Tyler Zeller was a terrible player/person, although I no longer agree with this since he is a Cavalier.

I'm 45% certain they will come to the Marshall game if we can give them a discount.

Yeah, I went to Hocking College for two years from 06-08 and never heard of any such deal. That and most students go home during the weekend as there is "nothing to do" (this is a direct quote from just about everyone who went home)...

I don't know Jeff, but it seems like a very smart marketing idea to get Hocking Tech students and the Ohio branch campuses involved in OHIO athletics. I'd also like to see home games designated for local towns and schools to get them involved and supporting Bobcat athletics. For example: Here in Milwaukee the Packers designate two games a year where Milwaukee fans get to actually attend games in Green Bay, this came about because they use to play half their games in County Stadium in Milwaukee. This keeps Milwaukee fans happy and there is a 60 year wait list for season tickets.

The days where Southeastern Ohioans are Buckeye fans - should be numbered. If our athletic programs continues with the success of recent years, I expect to see Bobcat flags flying in front of the homes instead of Ohio State (which I saw many when I was home last February). This is doable at OHIO as long as we continue being successful. Great things come with great people.

Though it's a long hill to climb, I will say that we are beginning to make some progress. I've seen more non-alumni in the Athens area wearing Ohio gear in the last six months than I've ever seen in recent years. I attribute this in part to the recent football and basketball sucess and also to the fact that Wal-Mart now has a fairly good size "Ohio sports gear display" in the front part of the store. You now see this before you see any OSU gear. I've watched when in that store to see who stops and picks up items and a lot of them are obviously hillfolk who would never darken the door of the College Book Store, Follett's or the new UA store on Court Street. Keep winning and I predict this trend will continue and pick up speed.

I like that OhioCatFan. When I was home last year I got a cool key chain from Wal-Mart that was $3.99 - same one at the book store was $9.99. I was impressed that I could find a Bobcat item at the local Wal-Mart. Progress? Maybe.

As a former student of a branch campus (Zanesville), I can say that the University needs to do MUCH more to reach out to the branch students. The vast majority of the students simply consider themselves OUZ, or OU_ students rather than OHIO students. I always thought that the University should advertise games like they do on Main Campus by putting up a game day banner, or at least put up athletic schedules. I also thought it would be cool for the 110 to make appearances at the branch campuses. I know at OUZ they always have a Fall Fest and Spring Fest on the main green that would be perfect for a 110 performance. Just something to make the average student feel more a part of OHIO.
