0 votes for Ohio.

Northern Illinois was among the 22 also rans with 2 points.  That means the coaches put us, at highest, 48th.  Ouch.

Most preseason polls have Ohio about 50-55. There were a couple that put Ohio about 80, and a couple that put Ohio in the 30s. After they play the games, we'll know who was right.

Frank can hardly further alert PSU to the danger they are facing by voting us as pre-season #1

Want respect? Beat Penn State.  None of this matters if we don't win this opener. We haven't beaten a BCS team in several years.

Big missed opportunities against osu, tennessee and rutgers in recent years. Finish the job on the field. Period.

Agreed, DFC.  Plus we didn't get any votes in the USAT poll at the end of last year, so it's not too surprising.  We beat Penn St and we'll likely be top 25 in both polls.

Top 25 after one win against a depleted Penn State team? No way. We might get some votes, but I doubt we'd be anywhere near the Top 25. In '08, Ball State didn't enter the polls until they were 7-0. Granted, they didn't play anyone on Penn State's level (biggest names were Indiana and Navy). I think we'd have to dominate the non-conference and maybe win a MAC game or two before we cracked the polls.

Not only did Ball State not play anyone, but more importantly they were a .500 team the year before.  I think with us coming off a 10 win season with an increasingly known QB and already known coach...I could see us flirting with the top 25 after a PSU win and entering the top 25 after a NMSU and Marshall win.

Good point. You're right, 3-0 this season would probably get us in the Top 25.

It also depends on the AP poll.  If we start with votes we can make a bigger jump with a win in the opener, the coaches will have to move us up faster.  Also, like every other week during the season, depends on what the teams in front of us do.

All I can say is who cares??????????

Pre-Season Polls are ridiculous. They either:
1. Place a team on a pedestal that has no right being there.
2. Place a team in a hole that can be tough to evercome if they are not a "traditional" power

IMO they shouldn't do the first poll of the season until after week 4.

In reviewing the polls L.C. posted, Penn State is nowhere to be found either.  Therefore, we need to not only win at Penn State, we need to make a statement and then destroy NMSU and Marshall in the following weeks.  That will get us attention/exposure on the national scene.

Just win, baby....

I hope for some easy wins, actually, for a different reason. I'm seriously not worried about the polls - those will take care of themselves. Ohio has a high enough profile that if they do win, they will get votes in time. I want the easy wins to rest the starters and keep them healthy, but especially to give the reserves experience. That's how you take a program to the next level, because then you can indeed "reload, not rebuild".
