Whose conference brought the refs? My wife was convinced that they were so biased they had to be from the Little 12, but I didn't think they were THAT bad.

One call against us really stood out, and that was a missed pass interference call on a throw to the endzone. After that, we miss a fg and come up with zero on the drive. the defender made no play on the ball and was all up in the receiver's grille.

Also McGloin getting credit for the incomplete pass in the 1st quarter was total bs. That was either a fumble or intentional grounding.  Seemingly we got away with a PI call, but that was within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage.  Wouldn't the correct calls been illegal contact or block in the back?

Agreed. I watched the game (on TV) live on Saturday and re-watched it on Sunday. On both occassions I thought the game was well called. Sure, there might have been a missed call here or there, but nothing that stood out to me. Even close calls that I was upset with initially (of the incomplete pass/complete pass variety) turned out to be proper on seeing the replays. Yes, the fumble in the first quarter was incorrectly called a forward pass, but that happens frequently, its not like a Big10 crew was trying to keep us down.

It is 100% possible that I would feel differently had we lost this game in a nail-biter.

I had few complaints about them.  Usually refs in AQ-nonAQ games find a way for the AQ team to win (see last year's Toledo-Syracuse game).  The guys they had Saturday called it fair.  I thought they missed a late hit against Penn St on the sideline early in the game and the pass intereference was incidental feet tangling and could've gone either way, but they also missed what's usually called pass interference against us and I thought one of our guys was lined up offsides in a key play late in the game, so the misses were pretty even.

Overall I thought it was well officiated but with any game you are going to have missed calls.   There was a blatant hold on the edge on Penn State's first TD.  There were obvious pass interference calls on both teams that were missed and there was a phantom false start on Prior.  If you take a look at their boards however you would think that Solich had slipped a few hundred thousand into the pockets of the refs.  That an the ongoing unwarranted persecution by the NCAA and they had no chance.

Anyone wanting to see the refs' birth certificates?

I just watched the final drive again just now and would like to mention something that says a lot about our young men. I thought this might be the proper place to put it. How many times when you see a big penalty called that can kill a team . You see players losing their cool and letting it affect their play? That holding penalty could have been such a play but nothing like that was seen from Ohio. Matter of fact you see Beau going up the the referee and patting him on the back. Can't tell what he said but something tells me it was something along the line of  god call, which it was. This is a team of winners.

That crew typically works B1G games, and I thought it was called pretty well.  That crew is consistently pretty good.

Other than calling an Official's time out when we were driving and had State Pen back on their heels I had no complaint about the job the Refs did Saturday.

But that official time out was because of a time clock problem that could have come back to bite us even worse than the unwelcome delay of game.

I don't think they unnecessarily influenced the game.  Good job overall.

Three no-calls that I counted, in no particular order:

TT took a knee to the head after sliding.  PSU player didn't exactly pull up and try to avoid the hit it seemed to me.  Happened in front of at least 2 refs who were on screen and looking at the play.

Our linebacker jumped the PSU running back who was targeted on a dumpoff over the middle in the, I believe, 4th quarter.  Looked early live on TV, looked early on replay.

Down the sideline there was some hand checking then a subtle push off by our WR (missed the name) to make the catch.  Could have gone either way and been a correct call, in my opinion.
