With all the (deserved) spotlight on the offense, one defensive stat from Saturday has been overlooked.  After Penn St got two TDs in two redzone possessions in the 1st half, they didn't even get into the redzone in the 2nd half.  The closest they got was the Ohio 30.  No plays starting closer than the Ohio 30.  Nice job, D.

We will get by.

We will survive.

Along with the 'lost stat' from Saturday, another seemingly small item from the game that I don't think has been brought up was the silent snap cOUnt the offence was going with throughout the game. At some points during the game - especially the 1st half - the crowd in the stadium got immensely loud. Each time, no matter how loud the crowd got, the right guard would calmly tap the leg of the the center when in the set position and the ball would be snapped a half-second later. When we were backed up near our own endzone in the second half, the coaches wisely called for the offence to remain set after the standard guard tap - sure enough, Penn State's D-line jumped, giving us some breathing room. (Not sure why the ESPN announcers said this was due to Tettleton's hard snap count...)
Overall, the coaching, execution and discipline our team had Saturday were superb.

This was the first game I ever noticed the guard being the one to actually tell the center to snap the ball (ahh the wonders of High Def television!) Was that the case throughout last year? I recall reading several times that we "always" use a silent count.

Great point regarding the D being overlooked...They really stood up in the 2nd half under circumstances that would have made it easy to fold!

Something else I think got lost...I know he had a bobbled snap but I thought Venham really played well.  That environment would be tough on anyone much less a true Freshman.  Won't be long before we see him running fakes me thinks!

Finally...I thought it spoke volumes about the program to see how involved Travis was on the sideline.  He continues to epitomize the Captain's role.  Hope we see him suited up next year!

Venhams first ever punt in a live game being 53 yards on the opponents field in front of 100,000 was impressive! He did drop a snap on another punt but did get it off and the returner muffed it with the good guys recovering it. He averaged over 42 yards per punt with the blocked one not being his fault. It went in the books as a team error for a missed block by his protection. Credit to the offense too because they were only forced to punt 4 times. The punt game should not be a concern for the next 4 years.
