A packed house. Sure it is band night but at one point the line for the student section nearly reached Ping. Good luck tonight fellas!

Just a sidebar: Today's official attendance at the Temps-MD game -- 23,322.  I'm glad the move to the Big Least has spurred interest in the Owls.

It also gets you a nice big target on your back every week.  Nice to see the student support, but without a win tonight you will see half that crowd next week.

Wife is at the game. She is in Athens doing dissertation work. Sent me a photo. Very few students left after halftime. Really good sign.

Students still left at halftime, but more left at the end of the 3rd when we put it away.  Welcome to big time football.  As long as we are undefeated Athens is going to be a very very fun place to watch football.  The talk in the student section was much much much bigger than the MACC.........  The on field product is amazing, but I will also enjoy every second of the off the field talk.

I've seen crazier things happen.

25,893 paid to see it.

The old record is 24,600 or so from either Pitt or UConn, correct?

ESPN3 said that it broke the record from UCONN a few years ago.

Not only that, as I recall, they made a major push to fill the stadium for U.Conn., and they were giving tickets away very cheaply. I didn't see any similar cheapo tickets this time, other than the usual family package. Thus the average ticket price was probably much higher this time, meaning they must have beaten the revenue record by a wide margin. Factor in that more people stayed to the second half, and there was probably strong concession sales, too.

Filling the stadium without giving the tickets away is a huge step. Strong ticket sales at home games is the key that opens the door to home-home being able to schedule better home games.

You're right, LC, although the cheap tickets were all in the gen admission areas in the north endzone, I think.  And it was Labor Day weekend, so people had extra time off to fit it in. Sad that I can no longer say that I was part of the biggest crowd at Peden but glad to see all the kids showing up and sticking around so long.  That's what helps perpetuate interest in Ohio football.

Agreed. Both Pitt and UCONN has a lot of free tickets. The Pitt game had over 5,000 tickets that were given to local elementary school students. This game was our first legitimate sellout in my mind - and we didn't have to give away or heavily discount price to get it.

The only "padding" of the numbers you can point to for this one is all of the HS bands that were there for Band Day. Otherwise, like everyone has said, we sold a ton of tickets that weren't all at "giving them away" prices (All tickets were $5 for UConn)

Hey I remember when I was a clerk at the Shively Market and we use to have a stack of tickets that we would put in people's bags when they checked out. Sure students got in free but the Athletic department wanted us to give them away to remind students there was a game that day.... So yea.... these times they are a changing.

I even remember when they use to have players go to the dining halls and walk around handing out tickets and encouraging students to come to the games.
