Anyone ever wait in a line like this when you were a student at Ohio?

I've seen crazier things happen.

Yes. In front of Big Red Tomato Pizza circa 1981.   Also on steak night at the Jefferson Cafeteria, circa 1980-81.

A couple of keg lines SEEMED that long.

OOO OOO, or trying to get through Nelsonville on move-in weekend...think it was sophomore year, when they had the roads through Nelsontucky all messed up and routed through Hocking College (or did they change it to The College of Hocking  )

Granted there were more students there than usual but the process stinks.  One would think in the days of electronic scanners that students could go in any entrance, have their id scanned an be admitted.  Marshaling them all through one entrance is crazy and the ticketing thing is just as bad.  Then you have the whole issue of security and pat downs.  Yes the line is long but the system is flawed.

Technically there is another entrance by victory hill that you can go through.  Security is definitely laxed...

It is notable that the line of students is clearly not on the lawn.  So we got that going for us!

I'm from the Lichtenberg years, the only way I'd be in a line that long is if there was something cold and frosty or blonde and jiggly at the end of it.

Is that Alan with a complaint? No way!

This is literally how every school in the country does it.  One entrance for students only.  The reason there aren't scanners is because, until recently, the demand from students was not there to justify the cost.  I am sure the department is assessing that now.  However, it is the same thing anywhere with students.  Most places, require kids to camp out for a few days for big games or line up for hours before the game.  I would say our system is not to bad considering.  Oxford Tech even does it for Ice Hockey.  Kids camp out for days for their big game weekends and even for their crappy weekends, have to spend the entire day in line to get in.

Is this just your bitterness with Schaus chopping G&W again?  It was the right thing to do just like about everything else he has done since getting to Ohio.  I find it amazing that you are complaining about the student entrance process now.  I bet a few years ago you were bitching about not having enough students at the games.

Are you the reason the McDonald's cups have a Caution: Drink may be hot sign?  You in a nutshell:
"My tea is too warm"
provide ice for your tea
"My tea is too cold and there is too much ice in it"
Remove some ice
"My tea is still to cold"

Crotchety!

I would assume most things dining were much better in the pre-Rich Neumann days.

In the mid 90's Ohio had just beaten a great UConn team in a tournament in Hawaii. The first home basketball game after break was against Miami. The students line stretched all the way up richland ave bridge to what used to be the Innovation center. When the Convo doors opened the students were sprinting into the arena to get best seats. This was also the game where the fire Marshall ordered the gates closed locking out fans that had purchased tickets in advance. It was that game that triggered student must be issued a ticket to get in. Over 7,000 students showed up that day.

"Most places" don't do the camping out for tickets thing. A few BIG NAME places with HUGE on-campus student bodies do it. A few schools do it for other sports (Duke et al. jump to mind). But the majority of schools don't do this, and even some of the ones that do use it to determine who gets the best seats, not who gets in at all. I guarantee that Duke doesn't do this for football, and I'm pretty sure that Penn State doesn't do it for basketball. I was at UMiami (FL) for a year toward the end of their good-years in football and they didn't even do the camping thing there (although it must be pointed out that they played in the Orange Bowl and have a surprisingly small student body). I guess I'm not a fan "camp out for 4 days for the tickets you've already paid for with your student fees and/or tuition" distribution model.

I did my undergraduate studies at OHIO in the late ' 60s, when Todd Snyder completed many passes to Cleve Bryant. The lines to get in were long then, too, but admission was low tech and quicker. We just flashed our student IDs. I seem to remember the Bobcats won most if not all games one season, but Richmond beat us in the Tangerine Bowl. It was a very exciting time! It's been over 40 years, but I'm so glad to see the long lines are back as well as the excitement. I do agree that it is one game at a time, but I can hardly wait for the next game. Enjoy these great times, Bobcat fans!

In the Gary Trent era, on weekend games students did wait a couple hours before getting in! The football team was a different story, stumbled through the gates in first quarter.

Boy, my memory must be growing dim, but I don't remember that many gadget QB eligible plays!

Edit: Well, this line is impressive, but I'll be even more impressed when I see scalpers in front of Peden again.  I can remember this not actually from my colleges years but from my high school years when I attended Ohio games in the late '50s and early '60s.

You've never stood in a line until you stood in line at the Taco Bell that used to be on Court Street at 2:00 in the morning. Those were insane lines. No wonder they got rid of it.

SIDE NOTE: I physically witnessed someone pass out in the middle of the floor at Wendy's and the Manager having to call him a cab to get him out. But then again, who hasn't seen that?

I remember the Pitt game line being long from my view on top of Peden, but can't remember how long.  Though I do remember they had to open up at least one other gate to get the students in when they realized that the game was about to kickoff with so many students still waiting to get in.

In 2002 they held Football O Zone sign-ups on a Saturday or Sunday morning in the spring for that fall's season. My friends and I went to the Convo on Monday afternoon to sign up, and still got second row seats. There couldn't have been more than 25 or 30 people sign up before us. Student interest has definitely changed a lot since then!
