I  say this game would be great to win, but it is not part of our team goal. Our goal is "Unfinished Business". That means a MAC title.
If you are measuring this season by going undefeated you probably are setting yourself up for disappointment. Winning every game is really hard to do!
So, I would love to beat Marshall, but if we don't our team goals are still intact.

I actually believe this game holds the key to the rest of the season. A loss to Marshall I think might take the air out of the balloon for fans and players. Let's be honest, we all think this has the potential to be a special season. Winning the MAC Championship this year is all of our goals, but if we could do it while standing in the national spotlight as well...

Our schedule get's much softer after the Marshall game with Norfolk St., @ UMASS, and then Buff and 'Kron at home. We beat Marshall and the bowling ball could really start rolling downhill for us.

Last season was "special." Any season with a division title and a bowl participation needs to be special for fans and players.  Do not, now, following last year, assume the MAC title and bowl wins.  If you are going to deflate as a fan over an away loss to an evenly rated foe you do not have the team's back.

That is garbage.  Beat Marshall!  This game is very important.

- It's our next game
- We haven't won at their place since they returned to 1A
- Validates last year's win
- Keeps momentum intact
- Regional perception of the programs needs to change
- Wins over fellow non-BCS conf teams are vitally important to the conference, perhaps even more so than the occasional upset of a BCS team
- Keep the rivalry cooking. Rivalries are important in college football
- 3-0

I don't disagree that last year wasn't special. I've followed Ohio Football long enough to know to appreciate years like last year. But I also believe this team is better than last year and I think we can raise the bar on last year. My point on the deflating is the general public's support of Ohio, not anyone on this board. We don't sell out Norfolk St. if we lose next week. Win or lose though, I think all of us on this board will be there.

This! The longer we stay in the national spotlight, the better it is for our program, our players, and our university.

Very well said MCF...

To me this game isn't about the season's goals...It's about capitalizing on the momentum we finally have going in regards to student / community support.  Regardless of the record showing Saturday night, It's still a very fragile relationship.  Win this one and we have them wrapped up for the season!

This is a huge game! No a loss will not break us but a win at a well respected opponent can launch us! If Ohio wins this game we can hit top 25 within a couple weeks.

Some long-ago football experiences cause me to think it might be wise to temper enthusiasm about the 2012 Bobcats as to having their way this season.

Winning clearly builds confidence, but confidence sometimes isn't enough.  My senior season we opened with two tough non-conf opponents - Lakewood St. Edward and Ashland - and beat them both decisively.  We then steamrolled our first six conference foes.  But in game 9 we met another conference powerhouse.  In a game that went down to the final ticks, we fell by 2 points.  We entered that contest with oodles of confidence - but so did our opponent.

Each season of trhe 124 FBS teams, how many finish undefeated?  One?  Sometimes two?  A tad of bad luck can lead to a loss.  And it usually takes a bit of luck to win one or two games.

A loss to Marshall won't break our season.  Even going undefeated, the shots of a BCS berth are very slim because of our schedule unless the MAC steps it up in the rest of the nonconference games.

However this game is critical for us for several reasons that have been posted, but I'll rehash anyway.

1:  It's our next game.  Our players need to go into every game as if it were a championship whether we were playing Marietta College or the Alabama Crimson Tide.  Champions play every game like it were their last.

2:  The fanfare of the NMSU game will dwindle with a loss to the Herd.  Win here and we can ride a tidal wave of momentum into the next game, then the one after and so on and so forth.

3:  A ranking is coming to us, but we need to start beating the opponents that we should beat.  That's a problem that has hampered us the past few years, but with a team that Coach Solich said was possibly his best one yet, it's time that we assert ourselves.

Last:  IT'S MARSHALL!!!!!!

I REALLY want to win in Huntington.  Deciduous Forest Cat's list is perfect.

That program and community keeps looking down at us.  Gotta beat them in Huntington to gain some real respect.

I remain concerned about perspective. That now it seems we need that undefeated season to be special.  Starting to sound like posters on a Texas or OSU board.  I expect the cats to win at Marshall, however, a loss (1) would not mean the sky is falling.  A MAC championship and another bowl win with 11-12 wins would still be uncharted territory.

Hey Mike!

I meant we'd have the newly found student / community support wrapped up...I too learned long ago never to take wins against anyone for granted much less an entire season.

I think the regional perception thing is spot on.

I'm sure many Turd fans think last year was a fluke.

There are way too many Marshall fans in Suthern Ahia and too many dang billboards....let's win over the south.

Agree with you, Doc, about Marshall's perspective on last year. And they would like to settle the account.
By the same token, don't know about you but I'm still hacked about two years ago at their place -- the lack of any laundry on the turf on that two-point try.

With Cedric Brown, a huge recruit, coming our way from WV (and whose dad played at Marshall), I'd like to win this game just so Mr. Brown doesn't start second-guessing his verbal commitment.

Furthermore, if we can't beat Marshall, then we have a very real reality check ahead in MAC play.

Hahaha, you must really think you are something.  I like the confidence (delusion), but that is funny.  I hope your 113 fans in attendance this Saturday will relish the ass whippin that you are about to receive.
