I would appreciate any observations on Mr. Vickk's play. Game Tracker had him with two incompletions to Carl Jones.  Someone please tell me these were to the other 89 D. Hammonds.

I only recall him coming in when Tettleton was down.  Good execution of the "run down the play clock and let Frank the tank take a timeout."

He played the entire 4th quarter. Looked pretty good executing his plays, and he can run pretty well.  IIRC correctly he didn't pass downfield at all, and just threw screens and passes out in the flats.

The real football heads will know this better than me, but isn't that how you want to start someone in this offsense, by having him get down pat the staple bubble screens, jailbreak screens and outs? I would think the reads and vertical passes would be the last thing you'd master in this system. Look at how Tettleton was introduced into the offfense...essentially as a Tebow-style designed run quarterback.

That would make sense, since I left at the end of the 3rd.

I thought he looked good, for a first time out. He seemed a little slow deciding what he's going to do, but that wasn't surprising, given that it was his first time playing for Ohio. Also, he seemed a little vertical, and therefore vulnerable, when he ran. I think his passing was ok, his ball fakes were very good, and he seems to have good "escapability."

I felt like the play selection was limited more by the score than what Vick was capable of. Given the high score, the point was to burn clock, not take shots for the endzone. Therefore the play calls were mostly short passes and handoffs, etc. He played intelligently, made no errors, and they moved the chains nicely, so it was all good.

I look to see more of Vick in a couple weeks.

I know it's not comparable, but Vick looked much better than Tettleton did his first appearance - but he was a true freshman and playing with less talent, but I think for a first look - he passed the test....

This was Solich's evaluation after the game:

“He did a very good job for the first time on the field. He’s shown promise in practice. We’ve got good young quarterbacks. I was glad to see him get playing time and see him handle it as well as he did. You could tell on the reads, he wanted to run the ball. He didn’t want to hand it off. That’s good. I don’t know how many throws he had, probably not too many. He just needs some game action to refine his skills.”

The most impressive thing was that both possessions, the Bobcats moved right now the field on long drives, but they did end up stalling shy of the end zone and ended up in field goals. The running backs, Patterson and Hammon, were very impressive. Vick also ran the ball pretty well. He didn't have much of a chance to show off his passing ability.

I said the same thing last night. He looked better than any other new quarterback I've seen come in and run Frank's system.

I blame those incompletions on Jones, actually.  He didn't even try to make a play for the ball...like he was content to just watch.

LEAVING THE 3RD QUARTER IS NOT REALLY A GOOD SIGN.  TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THAT ATTITUDE.  THIS NEEDS TO STOP, BUT CAN'T BE CONTROLLED.  IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE WITH 25,000 COMPARED TO 75-100,000 PEOPLE.

Beside Vick, Daz and Hammonds what other newcomers played for the first time yesterday...and how much each?  I know Branz had a sack.

For the newcomers, the initial experience is so important.  Game speed, game action--stuff gets picked up and becomes 'used to' for further play.  No substitute for game action experience.  It pays off in the future.

I left the stadium thinking this:

Dez CAN be a great player
2nd Team O-line was outstanding
Vick will keep the QB position in great shape

- McQueen already looks very good at left tackle. Dude is simply gigantic.

- Dayne Hammond played a little in the 4'th, dropped a pass.

- We got a lot of AJ Grady on 3'rd and longs, trying to get to the QB. I think he'll be a great OLB for us the next two seasons.

- Jovon Johnson made a nice play to break up a pass on 3'rd down.

- Lucas Powell is someone everyone is high on, played well at center in the 4'th quarter.

- Tim Edmond plays a lot of special teams. He's short but built like a truck. He also had big grin on his face every time he came off the field.

- Kendric Smith played a little at the end. He's pretty quick off the edge and could be a decent rush end like Nic Barber.

- Blake Jones got a nice sack at the end of the game.

- Palermo had a nice run or two at the very end of the game.

It was 44-17 and I got  a little over optimistic thinking we could hold on.

...also you missed seeing the future. That part of the game is when you get to look at all the players who will be the Bobcat starters in 1-2 years, or perhaps sooner. Even though Ohio has had solid teams, games have been close, and times like the 4th quarter haver been precious few for the Bobcats. The next step in program building is making those times come more often. Only when you get PT for the 2d and 3rd stringers can you really "reload, not rebuild".

The back-ups time can come instantly--injury, unfortunately, is part of football.

Please do not come on here stating that you left before game's end.  We just so much need fans who are not that way.

I stay to the end so I can sing Alma Mater Ohio with the crowd before heading home.  I wish they would put the words up on the scoreboard immediately after the game for those that do not know them yet.

Really good idea. I still don't know them by heart.

I understand why some of you may wish to see the backups playing in the 4th quarter to forecast the future.  However, I can actually see the future.  It is very green.

You were taught them at freshman convocation. Clearly, you are not committed to all things Ohio.
