....the best team won*.

Superior play making down the stretch allowed our team to earn its victory on the road. Hats off to Marshall for bringing its A-game tonight. We're still wearing the eye patch.

* - Note: These are words he delivered post game in the Ohio basketball locker room following the hard fought win over South Florida in the second round of the NCAA basketball tournament in March. As those who watched know, that game was a close, physical match-up in which the Bobcats found a way to make more plays down the stretch to secure the win. In my opinion,it was similar to the football game in Huntington on Saturday evening.

Although it's a W for us Marshall outplayed us. Cato was the best player on the field and our defense gives up almost 500 yards. Marshall's 2 turnovers in the last 4+ minutes allowed us to win. Our pass defense is very vulnerable. And I also thought Blankenship fumbled prior to our last FG. We were very lucky and fortunate

I'll take it too. But Cato is gonna be a force to be reckoned with the next 2 years.

And IMO we ned to see a lot more of Boykin now that he's okay as well as more Patterson. Both looked good tonight.

And Woseley gets his 2nd pick of the year.

Whether or not we were outplayed, we made the plays needed when they were needed. That pick to seal it was HUGE. If that ball is throw two inches higher, Marshall has the ball at the 10 with 2 TOs left and 30some seconds on the clock. Clutch. Clutch. Clutch.

Cato was great, but our defense didn't give up to many deep balls all game. The D bent, a lot. But it never broke.

Do you mean the two turnovers that we created? The ones that our players earned? Marshall is a pretty good team with tons of offensive firepower. But Cato was not the best player on the field. Tyler Tettleton was. He did nearly as many positive things (you could argue more) without the negative plays.

As for the last fumble. His knee was clearly down when the ball came loose. While both the last two official reviews were controversial they got them both right on review.

It was the fumble (ball being ripped away), not an interception, that led to the game-winning points.

The defensive secondary was much too soft.

I thought I heard Russ call Carpenter's play an INT and perhaps I'm wrong on it. Either way.our guys made more plays down the stretch and earned the win.

Who kept composure? Ohio

Who made fewer mistakes? Ohio

Who made more key plays? Ohio

This is what good teams do. Find a way to win in a hostile environment against a tough opponent. Come back from 14 down on the road.  We don't have the talent of Alabama, so we won't be winning games 50-0. But we do have a mentally tough, poised team filled with guys who aren't afraid to step up when the opportunity presents itself.

Congrats to the coaching staff and players.

The BETTER TEAM, or if you prefer, the TEAM THAT PLAYED BETTER won the game. Case closed.

I did not get to listen or see much of the game (my Tune In Radio app failed me partway through the game while traveling home to see the last half of the 4rh quarter

) but the stats for the game are pretty even, except for total yardage. Same number of plays, same number of first downs. Ohio defense was the difference in the game with a recovered fumble (more like a takeaway) and an interception to end the final drive.

No rose colored glasses for me but I don't consider it lucky when your defense truly holds the other team from scoring twice in a row during crunch time.

I agree.. The better team won.

It was frustrating to watch so many quicks completed in front of our guys but our LBs (and few LBs) can cover that type of passing attack. The comebacks were hurting us too but we made the plays when we had to. In the mix was their mistakes which gave us opportunities that we tok advantage of. Our few mistakes was the big difference. TT still wthout an INT. What a guy! Glad he's on our side. Coaches and palyers deserved the win.

I think Ohio has the perfect defense for today's style of game. No one outside of Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge has enough big, fast cornerbacks good enough to shut down the spread. Stopping the run and forcing turnovers in the secondary is all you can do to slow teams down right now.

My group from last night agreed with me, and I'll repeat it here. Our defense did well not to give up the big plays, but it was Marshall TALL outside wide receivers (numbers 3 and 9 maybe?) lining up against relatively short corners that was a very difficult matchup, which Marshall exploited to ding us on little short passes up and down that field. It was frustrating, but it also made them string a lot of plays together to accomplish anything.

On a different note, I just got back to Buffalo from Huntington (stayed the night down there), and I think I might have pulled/strained a muscle yelling and cheering after that late fumble recovery/strip that went for 50ish yards. I was literally in pain belting out Stand Up and Cheer after that play (but I don't regret the pain/injury one bit)
