Why did we snap the ball with :14 seconds left on the play clock on both second and third downs on the last series? Either make Temple use their final timeout or run the clock out. That was terrible, but everything else was great...

Tettleton said afterward that one snap was his fault and one was Skyler Allen's. He also said the very last play was supposed to be a pitch, but he bobbled the snap and improvised by running around for 10 seconds. That he did well.

I'm glad he didn't try to pitch it. That is just one more variable that could have led to some miracle comeback by Temple. I was actually hoping he would just run backwards through the endzone for a safety and time expired.

Earlier this year Wake Forest had fourth down in their own territory and the differential of the play clock and game clock was four or five seconds.  They ran the clock down to the four or five seconds and Grobe took the timeout.  Instead of punting or going into the shotgun formation which is the norm, the QB went under center, took the snap and took two steps back and launched a high pass that went out of bounds, but was in the direction of a receiver to avoid grounding.  By the time the ball landed the clock had run out.

Also, why the hell do they run their victory formation out of the shotgun?? There are already so many things that can go wrong with a REGULAR snap, why add the additional variable of making it a shotgun snap? I understand that their offense runs out of the pistol most of the time but come on...practice a regular victory formation with the QB under center like the rest of the world.

If you take 90% of your snaps in shotgun/pistol, you're sorta just asking for trouble moving under center (botched handoff, tripping on your way to your knees, DLman stealing the ball out of the QB's hands and not getting called for offsides, a la Clemson/Georgia Tech). You're seeing more and more shotgun teams taking the victory snaps out of shotgun and then stepping forward before kneeling. Such is the way of the world...

Either way, just let the play clock run down to 1 and snap it OR take the delay penalty.  I think there was like 14 seconds on the play clock on the one Tettleton wasn't expecting...Should have been much easier to run the clock out.  It's mnot rocket science.  But then, we seem to love being adventerous!

That's our 'Cats -- make the victory formation an unpredictable and exciting play.  Don't want the defense to figure what you're doing!

Bringing this one back just for Tom Coughlin and Greg Schiano.

Seriously, this would solve the whole gripe about whether it's sporting to go diving at Eli Manning. Have him take the snap out of the gun. NFL centers are awesome at shotgun snaps and if you put a running back behind the QB, even a  high snap won't kill you.

Hey if I'm a real football player I'm playin every second of the game.

You can go into any formation you want to but I'm goin after the friggin ball.

It's just like in baseball...you can try the intentional walk....but if you throw it close or over the catchers head....game on.

Agreed. And the Chargers-K.C. game from last year is video evidence of what can go wrong on a kneel down snap.
