First I know this is not completely a football topic, but I know this will be read here way more than in the general forum.

With that being said, my wife and I are in Cincinnati for a wedding this weekend and we were hoping to pick up some Ohio gear for our 11 month old daughter.

Anyone know of any local stores that will carry Ohio gear? We were at Kroger at they had A&M as well as UC stuff, but no Ohio stuff.

Thanks

You won't find much, but if you're near downtown, try Koch's Sporting Goods on 5th street. I know they have the Ohio mini helmets, and they may have other stuff.

Nary a store in the greater Cincinnati area has any Bobcat stuff.  It's not a problem for me because I'm in Athens on all home football weekends, but it can be off-putting.

Unfortunately there are few places that sell Ohio gear in the area and those that do sell more general merchandise like Tervis Tumblers or adult sized t-shirts.

Your only bets would be Koch's downtown or perhaps Cardboard Heroes in Kenwood Towne Center.  I would suggest calling ahead to both though.

You could also just buy something online from say College Bookstore online.  I have done that for some friends as baby gifts.

Lids will have hats every so often. Cardboard Heroes has Bobcats T-shirts, but maybe only one or two styles. Both can be found in Kenwood Mall off I-71.

Too bad Steve and Barry's isnt still around. Bobcat t-shirts for $7 and hoodies that last a lifetime for $15. I still own mine from there and wear it often.

Your best bet is to probably order something through CBS online. They ship rather quickly and mostly everything available in store is online also.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, wish we could get to Athens more often, I have seen the stuff online, but sometimes it is better just to see it in person.

All the best,
Gabe

I used to go to this little sports store in the Eastgate Mall. I don't know if it's still there or what it's called, but they had a few OHIO items. The old man that owned it once told me that he tried to get more OHIO stuff but that "that bookstore in Athens has all the rights to it."

I love College Bookstore and I think it is worlds above the generic Barnes and Noble stores that most schools have now, but are we really limiting our geographic marketing to give them an exclusive contract? I don't even know if it is true, but if so, that seems wrong-headed.

Just picked up a really nice Ohio hoodie with sewn on letters at Dunhams for $19.95 - regularly $40  and I live in far northern Ohio.  Great deal, great quality

I know in the Northwest part of the state at least, Dunham's is rapidly expanding. I wonder if they're trying to fill that vacuum of bargain sports apparel with Steve and Barry's rapid liquidation. I read a long form story on Steve and Barry's ascent and demise a year or so ago. it was a fascinating case study of how quickly low margin stores can go belly up.

I have no idea, I hear this from places like Cardboard heroes saying they can't get things besides the occasional t-shirt. The real reason being they can't push enough Ohio Gear. The reason why of course is because outside of Athens there isn't a massive demand in specific areas (ie would a store in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland make enough money selling mainly Ohio University Merchandise). To fill the geographic void is College Bookstore, I have told numerous people to look at their site, and if they can't find what they want to call. Of course, I also tell them if they see something cool, buy it because in 4 weeks it will be gone and never made again.

There are numerous sites on the internet that sell Ohio Gear.

If you look at just this one other site there is mostly the same stuff as at bobcatgear.com.  I don't think that there are many exclusive contracts.

It's not good that O H I O fans...football and basketball success ongoing...cannot readily purchase gear in Cleveland, Columbus, Cinci, Dayton, Toledo, 'kron, canton Lima, etc, etc.

Are we available in airports in Ohio?

Columbus Airport has a Big 10 store, no OHIO merchandise. Aside from a few shirts (and by that I mean two types) I don't think they have any Maryland stuff at BWI. I know at Yager Airport in Charleston, WVU and Marshall items are available

Any store can sell or manufacture Ohio merchandise by simply paying the logo use fee annually. College Bookstore has just chosen to make more of the logo merchandise than anyone else. We stopped by there on the way home from the game yesterday and they have a ton of nice stuff. That is my favorite store to buy Bobcat gear.

We are flying out of the Dayton airport and we were hoping to find some things there in the stores, but only A&M items, UC has been spreading their merchandise into the local stores in SW Ohio, it did make me feel a little better that I did not see any Fiami things and we are staying in the same county as Oxford.

We will be ordering some things online and that is what we will have to do.

Every store that you go in, ask for Bobcat gear.  Eventually they will get the point.  Demand will drive supply.

Very good point.  I did this in a store in L.A. yesterday and got a 'what planet from' look.  But you all in OHIO gotta do this consistently...for the sake of academics and athletics.  Make that mark OHIO.

I used to work there actually. It was incredible how much money people would spend in that place for bag fulls upon bag fulls of stuff. The company was just very poorly run. It's a shame too because in today's economy you would expect places like that to thrive.
