Neb & Wis are playing in throwback unies that look like the '40s or '50s and look hideous.  I'm not sure the point of games in throwback unies, but there's a reason those clothes died...they have no style.

If you are going "Throwback", how about wearing some leather helmets that don't come off every other play.

Fortunately he and I have same view on those two! It's more of a Zeppelin/Floyd vs Neon Trees/Black Keys thing.......

This is what I used to think in my earliest memories watching football as a 6 year old in about 1980 when most helmets were still like that.  I used to wonder how the helmet design conversation went....

What should we put on our helmet?

I know! I know!  Our name is The University of Wisconsin.  Wisconsin starts with "W" along with dozens of other schools so we should put a "W" on our helmet.  And, rather that design our own style of 'W" logo, let's use a generic big Ariel style W to make sure that we in no way, shape, or form distinguish that this is our team and not one of the dozens of other schools that start with "W".

OK, Sounds good to me!

That's all the effort you can put into it?  Anyway, I hated it when I was 6 so I guess that its deeply embedded in me now.  I would hate to see a generic "O" on our helmet.  We may be Ohio, Ohio University, OU, The Bobcats, The Ohio Bobcats...  but we aren't just an "O"...  If we ever DID do that I'd hope that it was at least a creative "O" that you could identify with Ohio University like Temple's "T"

...and, yes, that's what I thought as a kid.  The adult in me knows that once upon a time the logos were probably painted or stenciled on so they were kept simple.  Things stick around for a while.  I'm sure they stayed that simple because people liked what they were used to.  A lot of people my age hate it now when uniforms deviate from logos on the side of the helmet and stripes over the top of the helmet, around the sleeves, and down the leg.

I love my Badgers - not as much as my Bobcats, but I live in Milwaukee and they are the only D-1 team in the state. Not a fan of the uniforms either - but I'd love to see Ohio with the State Map and OHIO through it helmets. Would be very cool.

Go Bobcats!

Adidas is worse than the Maryland Under Armor. Everything is the same style. Horrendous colors with the letter on the front. Tennessee's and UCLA's are something I don't even want to see. Russell is the way to go.

I'd love to see us use the mid-1960s helmets with the outline of the state of Ohio.  Does anyone have a picture they can post?  Vern the Fern had these helmets designed to "take ownership" of the state, whose name we bear.  I think that these throwback helmets would be ideal for a high-profile game that was at least regionally televised.

I would just like to see our athletic department protect our trademark!  As much as I like the current crew, they are rather remiss in this area.

I really wish the athletic department would accept the "paw" again because as much as I love the "attack cat", nothing says Ohio to me more than the paw.  Screw Clemson and anyone else who uses it.  We are the only green and white paw that I know of so why would anyone outside of Bobcat nation confuse us for someone else?

I used to feel the same way about the paw, but have grown to love both the Attack Cat and the simple Arch Ohio.  I'd love to see a throwback with the state of Ohio outline, but the paw takes me back to my years at OU when the team won 7 games in my four years as a student.  Let that memory fade.  If we are going to do a throwback, do it to an era that we actually won a game or two.

On our trip to State College we saw a car with a green paw sticker. This was on a rural road about 30 miles from State College.  My first reaction was that it was another Bobcat fan traveling to see the game with Penn State.  As we got closer, however, it turned out to be some local high school.  This reinforced my perception of just how generic the paw has become. There is only one OHIO. There are thousands of paws.

I was working on a set of alternate concept jerseys recently and had this very thought.  I didn't previously know the Alden story behind it, but that makes it even better.  A matte green helmet with a white state of Ohio on it would be pretty sweet and certainly help drive home a point.  Actually, looking through that helmet project database, there are very few "state" schools that have ever used an image of their state on their helmet, and I don't think anyone currently does.

It could be really cool to use on an alternate jersey that maybe wasn't a throwback but had a retro feel.  As you said, it'd be great to wear something like that for say, a game like Penn State, or even if we were playing a big game outside of the region that we knew would be televised.

A bizarre idea I've had about the uniforms is to do an alternate with the number off-center with an open space near the left top. Put a green or white state of Ohio patch over the heart. I think it would be unique.

I'm with you.  The all green paw helmet is my favorite.

We need throwbacks ASAP. The 1967-1972 state of Ohio helmet (as OCF mentioned).

Why would we ever want to honor an era (The Paw) that put us at the very bottom of college football?  I mean the VERY bottom.

We may have been terrible during that period, but the paw is something that is awesome to me.  We were not terrible in every sport during the paw era.  I bought my first Ohio hat with a paw on it during the Gary Trent/Geno Ford years.  A green helmet with the white State of Ohio would be cool too.

As I recall, the State of Ohio helmets (ala 1968) also had a "Star" where Athens was.  I would imprint the Arch OHIO  inside the State outline instead.  Speaking of the Arch Ohio does anyone else think the Marching 110 Diamond shaped Os with the HI in the middle isn't cool?  Just curious...
