Yes, I'm glad we won. Yes, I'm glad we're 5-0.  And I guess it's good that we were good enough to survive today in spite of ourselves.

But let's call it what it was.  That was an awful performance against an awful team.  And we can forget about the BCS and we can forget about the top 25.  This does not bode well for our future against the teams that actually have good passing games in this conference.   I haven't felt this bad after a win since Akron in 1997.  If you'll remember, we were picking up serious steam in the polls at the time and a very close escape against the zips, who at the time were the 2nd worst team in college football cost us nearly every vote.  This win was a kick in the gut.

I completely agree. We can only hope that the team responds by playing better. That kind of game will get the Bobcats killed against almost any team in the MAC.

The performance was, obviously, that bad.  No pass rush means little success.  Could we possiby have missed more tackles?  Special teams:  D+/C-.  Did we have the right shoes--we slipped so much?  What happened to stopping the running game.

What do you call the down after we have the oppo at third and long?  First down.

That said, this was one game.  One horrible game.  But it does not stop a possible...possible..top 25 and BCS.

I'm with you 100%.  This game reminded me of Buffalo last year.  The only difference was Buffalo wasn't quite as bad as UMass, and we were able to escape with a W.    Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased with the win, but man, there's a lot of work to be done.

The dream should never die as long as we remain undefeated, bad win or not!  I'm about to change my screen name to The Visionary because the only thing I can see in our future is the bright lights of big time success!

That was an eyepatch game.  Give UMass a lot of credit for bringing their A game today.  They're improving and will not be an easy win the rest of the season.

I didn't see the game (the free link had A&M-MSU instead) but listened on the radio.  Seemed like T2 wasn't playing with his usual abandon.  Russ said he went down a few times to avoid taking a hit because of the injury.  That may have rubbed off on the rest of the team.  The receivers dropped at least three that should've been caught.  Also way too many UMass receivers getting wide open in obvious passing situations.  Thank God for the solid performance from Beau.

Still, these are the kinds of games that good teams win.  Don't know if all the publicity lately may have affected their play, but the game gives Solich a lot to harp on this week which should make them really focused for next week.

TT was either playing hurt worse than has been reported or was under orders NOT to get hit. That, and the rest of the offense, wasn't a problem. And there were no "new" problems tonight, just what we've known all along: we've had SERIOUS injury related attrition in the defensive backfield and as a result, any team that has an ability to throw the ball in a "forward" or "down field" direction consistently has a shot against us.

A decent pass rush makes any d-back look good....we need to find someone who can rush the friggin passer.

We haven't been 5-0 in 40+ years.

Everyone needs to keep it in perspective.

Every team plays one game where they seem to just not have "it".

Ohio may have been lucky enough win during that one flat game.

It is concerning to say the least. The injuries in the defensive backfield are a very real problem that was exposed today. I think the team didnt get up for the game ala Kent 2010. My hope is it opens their eyes to bring the same sense of urgency and intensity every single game.

Its a lot easier to rush the passer when his options are covered. I'm not criticizing the secondary (most of the preseason's projected starters are hurt and out after all), just pointing out that it isn't necessarily entirely the fault of the front-7 that there is little consistent QB pressure.

Looks like most everyone will be throwing 45-50 against us.  We're gonna give up yards.  I think we need to go to some 3 down lineman with more backers and DBs.  Then some rushing the passer off the corners or more cover men.  The defense is definitely hurting right now.  Hope we get to the bye week to get healthy and then finish out strong.

Here's the thing, we play these teams that spilt out 4 or 5 guys on nearly every play. We just don't have the talent in the defensive backfield to cover reliably. Someone is always going to get open. Even with Travis, that only solves 20% or 25% of the problem.

In the MAC , we're going to see nothing but spread offenses. That means we're going to need 5 or 6 DB's on the field at all times. My point: we need better defensive backs and more of them.

And we need to pressure the quarterback from the FIRST SNAP. Why do we not see inventive blitz packages until the end of the game? I swear, for three quarters we did nothing to try and disrupt the passing game. If we have a bad defensive backfield (and we do), then our only chance is putting some pressure on QB's so that they make mistakes.

Oh, and the tackling!! The tackling?!!?!

And I agree with Monroe...it seems like our guys couldn't run on that surface. Slipping and having trouble making quick moves. Very strange.

And finally, we HAVE to figure out the edge on those field goals. Troy Hill was matched up against two guys and anyone could see that that was going to cause trouble for us. And of course, it did. If I could see it then why couldn't our coaches?

That is all. Thank you.

A strange thing happened to a top 10 team Saturday: Their porous defense gave up 63 points! OMG! OMG! Go WVU!

How about Towson staying in the game with LSU? And South Florida making something of a game of it vs. FSU?!

Spoiled? No ... just a bit "Polyanna," perhaps.

Complaining about OHIO football wins....road wins to boot!

When I was in school, I witnessed 6 OHIO wins in 4 years and 2 of those wins came against Tennessee Tech.

Perspective.

My how the culture has changed in Athens.

Off hand, I am not sure how many wins I have seen the last 4 years (5 now, medical redshirt) but I know for a fact I cannot count them on my fingers.  Even my toes wouldn't cover the issue.

Just in case you've really lost count, in the last 3.5 seasons Ohio is 32-14.

You're not going to roll over every team, no matter how bad they are. There's going to be bumps along the way. Given the team's track record, I'm considering this performance the exception and not the rule. If it keeps up, yeah, be worried. But give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

If Ohio goes 12-0, wins the MAC title and then defeats Alabama or LSU in a BCS game, nobody is going to care what the score of this game was.

Otherwise they might.

But I am pretty happy to be 5-0. Ohio needs to play better than it did yesterday, but it seems like it still has a decent shot of running the table during the regular season.

Fair enough.  After some hours to cool off, some things still greatly concern me. the Secondary didn't look inexperienced yesterday, they just looked lost. Hopefully with more reps in practice the young'n's will be ready next week. Tackling was abominable yesterday, but like you said, that was an exception versus the rest of the season.

Red zone problems... they started last week.  Lots of trips near the endzone, not that many trips into it. Ohio is settling for a lot of field goal attempts and we know our kicking game is suspect right now. How have we not fixed the protection on the right side?

We ran into a combination of things Saturday, I think.  My abbreviated thoughts:

TT not 100% hurts, but even at 80%, he's a very solid QB who takes phenomenal care of the ball.

Beau is a workhorse, but I hope Boykin can get back quickly -- he could use a breather as the season goes on.

Our secondary is missing a lot of key pieces.  I imagine that contributes to a game plan of leaving a bigger cushion and keeping everything in front of them.  Can't say I disagree with the plan, given the hand we've been dealt.

We didn't play our best, but UMass is also, I think, better than most give them credit for.  I think they'll win a couple games in the conference this year.

Many people who seemed flabbergasted by missed tackles don't seem aware that their two biggest players on the offensive side are grad student transfers from Notre Dame (WR #3, Deion Walker) and Michigan (RB #5, Michael Cox).  Together, those two accounted for 242 yards, or very near half the team's offense, and the bulk of the big plays.
